Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in radiant health and best of spritis. I am writing this letter to get a job in one of your reataurants.
Recently, on my trip to delhi we met in the flight from ahmedabad on 28th August. As we were on the same row i remembered we exchanged our seats. Initially, I was shy to talk with you as you were looking professional. But, after few words exchanged between us I was quite comfortable to talk with you. As you told me about your new restaurant going to be open in my city, I am eagerly looking for a cashier or server job at your restaurant.
I have been working as a cashier in my friends hotel since last two years and also have a experience in serving the food as well. So, it will be perfect match for me to have a job in your restaurant as a cashier.
I hope you will consider my application and I am waiting for your response at the same time. Please, let me know your decision before the end of next month.
Thank you,
Your Sincerely,
JAY P.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the context of the meeting (the flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi on August 28th), specified your interest in a cashier or server role, and provided a relevant justification for your suitability based on your previous experience. The tone is generally appropriate for a business-related letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is a bit generic; using the businessman's name would have been more professional. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the initial meeting to the job request and finally to your qualifications. Paragraphing is used to separate these ideas, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Phrases like 'Initially' and 'As you told me' are functional but repetitive. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more varied linking words or transition phrases to improve the flow between sentences, such as 'Furthermore' or 'Consequently'. Overall, the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use relevant terms such as 'professional', 'application', and 'cashier'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'reataurants', 'spritis', and 'delhi' (which should be capitalized). Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'in the flight' (should be 'on the flight') and 'in my friends hotel' (should be 'at my friend's hotel'). Improving your accuracy in spelling and preposition usage will significantly enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor grammatical errors, such as 'I was quite comfortable to talk with you' (should be 'talking to you') and 'have a experience' (should be 'have experience'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors with commas, such as 'Please, let me know'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score.
