I beg to say that my name is Sarthak. We met on the plane a couple of weeks ago while we were coming from Delhi to Vancouver. We had had a nice talk over the span of the flight. You found my experiences intriguing and called me passionate. You told be to reach you out regarding some job opportunities.
As I have been in working in the industry last for the 3 years I have gained valuable experience. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the context of the meeting, specify the desired roles (front desk supervisor or food and beverage sector), and provide a rationale for your suitability by mentioning your degree and three years of experience. The tone is generally appropriate for a professional follow-up letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is slightly more expanded; for instance, you could briefly elaborate on a specific skill or achievement from your previous work to make your candidacy more compelling.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression from the initial meeting to the job inquiry and finally the request for consideration. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction/context from the specific job request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Phrases like 'Additionally' and 'As I have been' are functional but repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between your past experience and your current job search is smoother. The overall structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using industry-specific terms like 'hospitality industry' and 'food and beverage sector'. However, there are some awkward collocations and minor errors, such as 'reach you out' (should be 'reach out to you') and 'provide my with' (a typo for 'provide me with'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and phrasal verbs. Expanding your range of professional vocabulary would help elevate the tone of your correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I beg to say that my name is' (which is overly formal and slightly unnatural), 'last for the 3 years' (incorrect preposition and article usage), and 'completed my bachelors' (should be 'bachelor's degree'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though the salutation 'Dear Mr. Adam's' is incorrect (it should be 'Dear Mr. Adams'). While the meaning remains clear throughout, the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage.
