Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sukhjit,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to revisit our conversation we had while we were on a plane. The journey we had, when you were going to Calgary. We were on the same aisle, sitting right next to each other. I am that girl to whom you spoke about job opportunity available in one of your restaurants.
I want to inform you about my preference. I have an experience in Customer Service. I have been working in a hotel from last 2 years in SouthWest of a city. So, if I can get the position related to customer service, that would be great.
I can perform well under pressure. I have a good experience dealing with customers who are not very friendly and hard to deal with. I can speak more than two languages which includes Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and English.
I would appreciate if you can take a look at the job openings you might have, for me. Thank you for offering me a chance to talk about my experience.
I would love to hear from you soon.
With Kind regards,
Gurpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully covered all three bullet points required in the prompt. You reminded the reader where and when you met by mentioning the plane journey to Calgary and sitting next to each other in the same aisle. You clearly stated the type of job you are interested in by expressing your preference for a customer service position. Furthermore, you explained why you would be suitable by highlighting your relevant experience in a hotel, your ability to perform well under pressure, and your multilingual skills. The tone of the letter is appropriately friendly and polite, and the purpose is clear throughout. All requirements of the task have been addressed effectively, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear logical progression, starting with an appropriate greeting, reminding the reader of the context, stating the job preference, detailing suitability, and concluding with a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct ideas, such as your background and your specific skills. However, some cohesive devices and referencing could be smoother. For instance, sentences like 'The journey we had, when you were going to Calgary' are slightly disjointed. Overall, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, but minor improvements in sentence linking would elevate the flow to a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You successfully use topic-specific phrases such as 'customer service', 'job openings', and 'perform well under pressure'. However, there are some lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'I have an experience' (should be 'experience' as an uncountable noun), 'working in a hotel from last 2 years' (should be 'for the last 2 years'), and 'SouthWest of a city'. While these minor errors do not impede communication, the range of vocabulary remains somewhat limited and standard, preventing a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate control over a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I have a good experience dealing with customers who are not very friendly and hard to deal with.' There are, however, several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'revisit our conversation we had' (redundant relative pronoun or phrasing), 'I am that girl to whom you spoke' (a bit unnatural in tone), and preposition errors like 'from last 2 years'. Punctuation is generally fine, and these errors rarely impede communication, allowing for a comfortable mid-band score.
