Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am trying to remind you that I was the same person to whom you told to give a job opportunity in one of your Calgary's restaurants.
Well, we met 3 months ago in WestJet airlineand we were travelling from Calgary to London, we both sat next to eachothers in the same plane. That time you were telling me that you have been expanding your food business and you have been owning more than 15 restaurants across the canada.
However, as I mentioned I am living in calgary and recently I have finished my higher education and I am looking a job in food sector as per requirement of my field job and I remind you immediately as you mentioned me to get a job opportunity in your calgary's located restaurant.
As I finished my higher education in Hotel Management course and I have more than 2 years of experience in the food industry, I would be the perfectly suitable for the cook position in your restaurant. I wish I could give me best and apply my cooking skills after joining in your restaurant, which helps eventually both of us to increase the reputration of your business.
I hope you would hire me and let me know as soon as possible when would I start my job in your restaurant.
Yours faithfully,
Smit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You reminded the businessman about when and where you met by stating, 'we met 3 months ago in WestJet airline and we were travelling from Calgary to London.' You also identified the job you are interested in, which is 'the cook position,' and explained your suitability by highlighting your educational background in 'Hotel Management course' and your 'more than 2 years of experience in the food industry.' Although the tone at the beginning ('I am trying to remind you') is slightly unnatural for a polite business inquiry, all parts of the task are addressed with clear, relevant ideas. Therefore, this fulfills the requirements for a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear overall progression from the initial greeting and reminder to the statement of intent and closing request. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the context of the meeting, the job preferences, and the conclusion. However, the organization of individual sentences feels a bit cluttered at times, and cohesive devices are occasionally repetitive or mechanically used, such as starting multiple sentences with 'However' or 'As I'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance in the phrase 'as I mentioned I am living in calgary'. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms related to the food industry and your studies, such as 'higher education', 'food industry', 'Hotel Management course', and 'cooking skills'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'airline' instead of 'flight', saying 'you have been owning' instead of 'you own', and 'calgary's located restaurant' instead of 'restaurant located in Calgary'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but minor lexical slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band. This performance corresponds to a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'As I finished my higher education in Hotel Management course and I have more than 2 years of experience...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout, including 'I was the same person to whom you told to give a job opportunity', 'we both sat next to eachothers', and 'I wish I could give me best'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization of proper nouns like 'canada' and 'calgary'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to warrant a Band 5.5.
