Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Paul,
I am writing to bring your attention to the conversation we had about a week ago when we were on flight to Calgary from Vancouver. I was presented with a potential job opportunity in managerial role by you at one of the restaurant you own.
In a short distance flight, we did not had enough time to discuss all aspects of this opportunity. With my credentials and previous work histroy I believe the role of human resource is well suitable. This role is highly intesified and challenging sometimes but I handle pressure situation comfortably.
Moreover, I already posses three years of experience in this field in multinational company. This will help me to manage multiple sites without losing calm. I think I am good in building good employee and management relationship which would eventually help us to retain talent.
I hope you will consider me for this role and we will build this business much stronger.
Your faithfully,
Ranjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the task successfully. You clearly remind Paul about when and where you met by stating 'when we were on flight to Calgary from Vancouver' about a week ago. You state the kind of job you are interested in by mentioning 'the role of human resource' and explain why you would be suitable by highlighting your 'three years of experience in this field in multinational company' and your ability to 'handle pressure situation comfortably'. The tone is appropriately semi-formal for a business contact, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. Although there are some minor unnatural phrasings, the core requirements of the task are fully met and well-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression and logical organization. It begins with an appropriate salutation and opening reference to the encounter, moves into the job preference and qualifications in the body paragraphs, and concludes with a polite forward-looking sign-off, although the sign-off phrase 'Your faithfully' contains a minor grammatical slip. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the introduction of the meeting in paragraph one, your suitability and experience in paragraphs two and three, and the conclusion in the final paragraph. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and referencing pronouns are generally used effectively to guide the reader through the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, demonstrating attempts at less common business-related collocations such as 'managerial role', 'potential job opportunity', and 'retain talent'. However, there are some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'short distance flight' instead of short-haul flight, 'work histroy' with a spelling error, and 'building good employee and management relationship'. Furthermore, 'intesified' is used instead of intensive. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional or participial integration ('With my credentials and previous work histroy I believe...'). However, there are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text. For example, 'on flight' is missing the article 'a', 'we did not had' contains an incorrect verb form after the auxiliary 'did', 'at one of the restaurant' should be plural ('restaurants'), and 'pressure situation' lacks plurality. Additionally, 'Your faithfully' is a misuse of the formal sign-off phrase. Despite these errors, the sentences remain comprehensible and communication is rarely impeded.
