Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions well. You successfully reminded the business owner about where and when you met on the flight to Vietnam, explained that you are interested in a part-time job in one of his restaurants while pursuing your master's degree, and stated your suitability by mentioning your six months of experience as a junior chef and knowledge of multiple cuisines. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the tone is generally appropriate for communicating with a professional acquaintance. However, the development of ideas is slightly hindered by repetitive phrasing and minor lexical choices, such as calling yourselves 'partners in business,' which is a bit premature. Overall, the requirements of the task have been met satisfactorily.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into three distinct paragraphs that follow a logical progression from opening and reminding, to stating the purpose and qualifications, and finally concluding. Cohesive devices and linkers are used throughout the text, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover'. However, some of these transitional phrases feel a little mechanical or are slightly misused in context, such as 'Furthermore you gave your email id'. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate the greeting, body, and sign-off, but referencing within sentences can occasionally be clunky. Overall, the flow of information is coherent and easy to follow despite these minor structural awkwardnesses.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing you to successfully communicate your background, career intentions, and past meeting. You attempt some less common vocabulary items and topic-specific terms, such as 'master graduation', 'business management', and 'junior chef'. However, there are a number of spelling and word choice errors throughout the letter, including 'oppertunity' instead of opportunity, 'resturants' instead of restaurants, 'cuisions' instead of cuisines, 'dishies' instead of dishes, 'costumers' instead of customers, and 'appriciate' instead of appreciate. Furthermore, phrases like 'email id' and 'get part time employed' are unnatural. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a Band 6 level due to frequent spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures such as 'If you will give me this oppertunity , I will do my best...' and relative clauses. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, particularly with verb tenses and auxiliary verbs. For instance, 'we met in the flight and travelling to Vietnam where I set next to you' contains tense inconsistencies and preposition errors ('in the flight' should be 'on the flight', 'set' should be 'sat'). Additionally, the construction 'requesting you to get part time employed' is grammatically incorrect, and the future tense is inappropriately used in conditional clauses ('If you will give'). Punctuation spacing around commas also needs attention. Communication is not impeded, but errors are frequent enough to place this at a Band 6.
