Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You reminded the reader where and when you met on the flight from Delhi to Bangalore, stated that you are interested in a junior chef position following your hotel management graduation, and explained why you would be suitable by mentioning your culinary training, skills in preparing various dishes and vegetable carvings, and your convenience regarding restaurant locations. The tone is appropriately semi-formal, although it leans slightly informal in places. The purpose of the letter is clearly communicated from the outset, and all ideas are extended with relevant supporting details. Overall, the task is fully addressed in a satisfactory manner, earning a band score of 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose, but the paragraphing and mechanical cohesion require improvement. The text is essentially split into a greeting, one very long block paragraph containing multiple ideas, and a closing sign-off. This lack of clear paragraph breaks makes the flow slightly disjointed. Cohesive devices are sometimes faulty, repetitive, or missing, leading to abrupt transitions between sentences (for example, 'Right now i had completeted... So, i am going to attach...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and punctuation errors further disrupt the logical progression of ideas. While the progression is understandable, the organisational flaws restrict the score to a 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'hotel management graduation', 'resume', 'junior chef', and 'pure vegiterian and non vegiterian'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'joureny', 'completeted', 'mangement', 'shef', 'interset', 'tast', and 'flover'. Less common lexical items are attempted, but inaccuracies in spelling and collocation occasionally cause strain for the reader. Despite these noticeable errors, the meaning is generally conveyed, supporting a band score of 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and causal clauses (e.g., 'because i am staying in your loaction i can able work any branch'). However, there is a high frequency of grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies, missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences (e.g., 'How are doing ?I hope rembemer me we were met...'). Punctuation is also poorly handled, with spaces incorrectly placed before punctuation marks and capitalisation errors. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance firmly at a band 4.5 level, rounded to 5.0 for overall comprehensibility.
