Student answer (Band 5.5)
I am writing this letter to give you reminder about my job as you said during the plane journey. I want to move saskatchwan for permanent resident and i was worried about how i get job there because i do not know anybody there.
I went to Toranto from vacouver on the 25 of august and then i met with a person who has their own restaurent like boston pizza and he runs 10 restaurent in saskatchwan. As i told you sir in plane, i have 3 years experience as a cook in milestone restaurent at british columbia.
The reason why this job perfect for me because i have enough skills to handle differnt stations as fryer, grill and many others. I can handle all the stations very well. I do not have line experience but prep also which helps to develop their restaurent productivity. Moreover, it also brings good results for my PR.
Best regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the meeting is reminded by mentioning the plane journey from Vancouver to Toronto on August 25th and referencing the restaurant chain owner. Second, the type of job interested in is clearly stated as a cook. Third, suitability is explained by highlighting previous experience as a cook at a specific restaurant in British Columbia and mentioning the ability to handle various kitchen stations like the fryer and grill. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed, and there are occasional slips regarding purpose and context, such as mentioning permanent residency and PR, which are not explicitly requested by the prompt. Nevertheless, the core requirements are covered sufficiently to earn a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established in the opening. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the context of meeting, the reasons for suitability, and the sign-off, although some paragraphs are quite brief. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'The reason why', but referencing is occasionally unclear or mechanical, such as 'give you reminder about my job as you said'. Overall, the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, making this performance fit comfortably into the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating specific terms related to the restaurant industry such as 'cook', 'stations', 'fryer', 'grill', and 'prep'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'saskatchwan' (Saskatchewan), 'Toranto' (Toronto), 'vacouver' (Vancouver), 'restaurent' (restaurant), and 'milestone' (Milestones). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they demonstrate limitations in lexical control and spelling accuracy, which typifies the Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The reason why this job perfect for me because I have enough skills...' and 'I want to move saskatchwan for permanent resident and i was worried about how i get job there'. There are several grammatical errors and omissions, including missing articles ('move to Saskatchewan', 'a job'), missing verbs ('is perfect'), preposition misuse ('on plane' instead of 'on the plane'), and consistent capitalization issues with pronouns and proper nouns. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader at times, but communication is still achieved, warranting a Band 5.0.
