Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir, I hope you are doing well. I met you during the air canada flight you took on september, 5th of 2026. We had a great conversation about some resturants around Toronto and the service qualities. As our views were common on those resturants, I thought it will be great if I would get a chance to work at your resturant.
I have been working as cook from last 3 years and have successfully increased the sales of the work place by 30% over last 2 years. As per our conversation the enviornment of your resturant have some place for innovations and new ideas. This persuades me more than everyting to move my employment place. I have created some dishes which were loved by my customers even though the owner of my resturant is scared of experiments.
The suportive nature of innovation and good team environment of your resturant have perfect room for someone like me. I would really appriciate if you would give me a chance to work for you and create a nice experiance for future customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points of the task effectively. You successfully reminded the businessman about where and when you met on the Air Canada flight on September 5th, 2026. You also clearly stated your interest in working as a cook in one of his restaurants, drawing on your background and the conversation you shared. Furthermore, you explained why you would be suitable by mentioning your experience in increasing sales by 30% and your passion for culinary innovation and new ideas. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal business letter, and all parts of the prompt are well-developed and easy to follow. Therefore, this fulfills the criteria for a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear overall progression and logical organization from the initial greeting to the final request. However, the paragraphing is somewhat weak, as the entire body of the letter is condensed into only two main paragraphs without a clear division between the introduction of the topic, your background, and your suitability. Cohesive devices are used adequately with phrases like 'As per our conversation' and 'even though', but referencing is occasionally basic. A more careful division of paragraphs would enhance the structural flow and make the letter easier to read.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common terms such as 'innovations', 'persuades', and 'experiments'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'canada' (Canada), 'september' (September), 'resturants' (restaurants), 'enviornment' (environment), 'everyting' (everything), 'suportive' (supportive), 'appriciate' (appreciate), and 'experiance' (experience). These spelling inaccuracies slightly detract from the overall quality of the writing, though they do not impede communication, placing this securely in the band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures successfully, such as 'I have created some dishes which were loved by my customers...'. There are some grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including lowercase capitalization for proper nouns ('air canada', 'september'), a missing preposition in 'working as cook' instead of 'working as a cook', and tense usage issues such as 'from last 3 years' instead of 'for the last 3 years'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and communication is never impeded.
