Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope you are doing well. My name is alex, and we had a conversation last week during a flight journey from Tornoto to Winnipeg and you shared your contact information for possible job position in your restrauant in Winnipeg.
I am highly interested in a management position because I worked as sales supervisor in a insurance company. I really like to deal with customers and team members. That is a reason why I want to continue to this position.
Eventually, there are several skills which I learned from my previous experiences. Firstly, my problem-solving stargey is very effective when it is time to deal with customers and managment, I always tries to make things simple and easy. Moreover, I am able to read body language of other person by physical movements which helps me to be a good listener and communicator. Therefore, all these qualities are essential to enter in a management role.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to a prompt reply.
Yours faithfully,
Sim.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You began by appropriately reminding Mr. Smith of your meeting during the flight from Toronto to Winnipeg last week. You then clearly stated your interest in a management position and provided logical reasons for your suitability, drawing upon your previous experience as a sales supervisor and your skills in problem-solving and communication. All bullet points are covered well, and the tone is suitably polite and professional for a formal request letter, despite a few minor content omissions in fully detailing the restaurant context. Overall, the ideas are sufficiently extended and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout, aligning well with the Band 7 requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear overall progression. Paragraphs are used appropriately to separate different functions, such as the introduction, job preference, and personal qualities. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'Firstly', although some of the transitions could flow more naturally. Referencing is generally clear, with phrases like 'all these qualities' successfully linking back to the previous paragraph. However, occasional mechanical transitions and slightly disjointed sentence structures prevent this criterion from reaching higher bands. Overall, the coherence is clear and the reader can easily follow your train of thought.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your message about past employment and desired roles. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'management position', 'problem-solving', and 'consideration'. However, there are several spelling errors ('restrauant', 'Tornoto', 'stargey') and minor word choice or collocation inaccuracies, such as saying 'continue to this position' instead of 'pursue this role' or 'enter in a management role' instead of 'enter a management role'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-style connectors effectively. There are several error-free sentences, particularly in the opening and closing paragraphs. However, a number of grammatical errors persist, such as capitalization issues ('alex', 'Tornoto'), punctuation errors (a comma splice in '...to deal with customers and managment, I always tries...'), and subject-verb agreement slips ('I always tries', 'skill which I learned'). Additionally, the phrase 'body language of other person by physical movements' is slightly awkward. These errors rarely impede communication, placing your grammatical control firmly at the Band 6.0 level.
