Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, though the development is somewhat uneven. You successfully remind the businessman of where and when you met, stating that you sat beside him on a recent plane journey a couple of weeks ago. You also mention your interest in a position at his restaurant and touch upon why you would be suitable through your culinary skills and hotel management background. However, these ideas are slightly under-developed and lack specific details. For instance, explaining more precisely what type of culinary role you are targeting or giving a concrete example of your past experience would make your application much stronger. Your tone remains appropriately polite and semi-formal throughout, successfully fulfilling the communicative purpose of the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from your initial introduction to your specific job interests and suitability. Paragraphing is used reasonably well to separate the greeting, the context of your meeting, your skills, and the closing. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, transition phrases like 'For remind you' and 'Apart from that' feel slightly unnatural and disrupt the smooth flow of the text. Furthermore, referencing pronouns are occasionally unclear, requiring the reader to re-read to connect your ideas. To improve coherence, you should use more natural and varied cohesive devices to link your sentences and paragraphs seamlessly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message despite a limited range and noticeable errors in word choice and spelling. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to the industry, such as 'culinary skills' and 'hotel management', but there are several word choice and spelling inaccuracies that affect precision. For instance, expressions like 'reaching out you' lack the correct preposition, and words such as 'bussiness', 'possition', 'cource', 'gratefull', and 'responce' contain spelling mistakes. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they highlight the need for greater control over common and less common lexical items to ensure your writing appears polished and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. You attempt complex sentences, such as 'When you gave me a lot of information of your bussiness and told me, if I need any help...', but these attempts are frequently flawed by incorrect punctuation and awkward clause structures. There are also several errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage, such as 'at recent plane journey', 'I have an excellent customer service skills', and 'handle all situations with confident'. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control.
