Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main purpose of the letter, successfully reminding the businessman of the recent plane journey from Calgary to Vancouver and expressing interest in the counter person role discussed. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed, particularly regarding why you are suitable for the job, as the explanation relies on simple repetition rather than persuasive elaboration of your accounting experience. Additionally, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, which restricts the depth of coverage for all required bullet points. To reach a higher level, you should expand fully on each point with supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation with an attempt to structure the letter using paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as the overuse of 'and' and 'so' to link clauses together like in 'so i am interested in it so i will tell you'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information smoothly. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, leading to a cramped and underdeveloped structure. To improve, you need to use a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices and organise your thoughts into distinct, logical paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('calagery' for Calgary, 'airplan' for airplane, 'movement' for moment, 'YOur' for Yours) and incorrect word choices or collocations like 'hold all the payment'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range. To achieve a higher score, you need to incorporate a broader range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items accurately, and carefully check your spelling and word forms before submitting your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on basic sentence structures. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences and poor clause connection. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing capitalisation ('I', 'SMith', 'gagan', 'vancouver'), incorrect verb tenses ('I glad', 'we discuss', 'i had experience'), and missing articles. These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve your grammatical score, you should focus on varying your sentence structures, ensuring accurate subject-verb agreement, mastering past and present tense usage, and polishing your punctuation.
