Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all three required points: you identify the flight from Surrey to Brumpton, explain that you want part-time work at the Surrey restaurant, and give relevant experience and skills. The two years as a kitchen helper and your culinary knowledge support your suitability. However, some details are less fully developed or unclear. For example, the reference to feeling stressed about exams and the businessman’s encouragement is not clearly connected to why you would be a good employee. The opening also says “one of his restaurants” rather than directly addressing the businessman, which makes the request less clear. Make the job request explicit and add a specific example of how your experience would help in the role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the purpose to the meeting, the job sought, and your qualifications. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and “Firstly” and “I would like to inform you” signal transitions. However, the progression is sometimes difficult to follow: the account of exam stress and encouragement interrupts the reminder of how you met without clearly supporting the job application. Some links are mechanical, and the opening combines several ideas without clear punctuation. Organise the letter into focused paragraphs—meeting, role, and suitability—and use direct links such as “As you suggested, I am contacting you…” to make the relationship between ideas clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the application, including “part-time job,” “experience,” “kitchen helper,” and “ingredients,” so the reader can understand the kind of work you seek. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “culinary skills” and “consistent efforts.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “capabilties,” “organisining,” “conversion” where “conversation” is intended, and “resaturant.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “request for getting employment” and “owner of number of restaurants.” These choices sometimes make the message less fluent. Learn common collocations for job applications and proofread spelling; for example, say “apply for a position” and “a chain of restaurants.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message is generally recoverable. However, errors in sentence construction, articles, prepositions, and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For instance, “I am writing to request for getting employment” has an incorrect grammatical pattern, while “you sat beside with me” uses an unnecessary preposition. In “i came to know that you are owner,” the pronoun should be capitalised and an article is needed before “owner.” Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and “Your faithfully” does not use the correct form of the closing. Practise accurate application-letter patterns and check each sentence for complete structure, articles, and punctuation.
