Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter to remind you that we met on a plane last week and you suggested me to reach out to you in case i need a job in one of your restaurants. You mentioned about various job openings in your restaurants such as Manager, Accounting representative, and Supervisor positions.

I am very interested in Accounting position because i have a bachelors degree in Accountancy and also 3 years of hands-on experience in the field. I can do book-keeping, ledgers, income statements, tax returns, and organise billing on daily basis. I can provide reference from my previous employer in case required about my efficiency in working. I believe that i am a suitable canditate for this position because i can fulfill all the requirements mentioned in your restaurant's website for this position.

I will be very thankful to you for your time and will be waiting for your response.

Yours Sincerely,

Ishpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points: you remind the businessman that you met on a plane last week, identify an accounting role, and explain your relevant qualifications and experience. The details about your accountancy degree, three years of experience, and bookkeeping and tax work support your suitability rather than merely asserting it. The purpose and polite tone are clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, specify the journey or give a brief detail from your conversation so he can readily recall you, and connect your skills more directly to the needs of a restaurant. For example, explain how your experience could help manage the accounts of a busy restaurant.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear, logical order: you recall the meeting, state the position you want, provide evidence of suitability, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main stages, and phrases such as “I am very interested” and “I believe” make the progression easy to follow. The list of accounting duties also supports the central point. Some linking is less smooth: the opening sentence joins several ideas with commas, and the list of other vacancies is not essential to the letter’s main purpose. Use clearer sentence boundaries and transitions, and move more directly from the meeting to your request for an accounting position.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-relevant vocabulary, including “hands-on experience,” “book-keeping,” “ledgers,” “income statements,” and “tax returns.” These terms make your accounting background specific and understandable. However, some choices are imprecise or less natural in this context: “Accounting representative” is an unusual job title, “reach out to you” is rather conversational for this formal letter, and “fulfill all the requirements” is broad when you could name the relevant skills. There are also spelling and form issues, such as “canditate” and “bachelors degree.” Aim for more precise professional wording and check spelling and standard forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple statements and longer sentences, and the meaning remains clear. You use subordinate clauses to explain your suitability, as in “because I have a bachelors degree in Accountancy,” and “in case required.” However, some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. The opening is a comma splice: “I hope you are doing well, I am writing…” should be separated or joined with a suitable conjunction. Articles and possessives also need attention in “in Accounting position” and “a bachelors degree”; write “an accounting position” and “a bachelor’s degree.” Capitalise “I” consistently, and use a comma after the closing phrase. More accurate sentence boundaries and article use would improve control.
