Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Vikas,
I am writing this to apply for the job we just discussed in plane.
I would like to remind you that we had a meeting in plane last Saturday when we were travelling to Washington from Toronto. At that time you told me about your chain of restaurants across Canada and suggested me to contact you for job. Moreover , I am now open to work as a cook and have experience of three years in a pizza store as a cook which may be valuable for your business.
However , my current job includes pizza making , delivery duties , customer handling and staff scheduling which makes me more suitable for one of your restaurants in Brampton as you are also looking for a new employee. In addition to this , I own car and valid driver license in case it is required orders or deliveries.
Yours faithfully,
Aakash

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: you identify the journey from Toronto to Washington last Saturday, state that you are interested in cook work, and give relevant reasons for your suitability, including three years’ experience and duties such as pizza-making and staff scheduling. These details make the application credible and relevant. The reasons are not equally developed, however: the experience is useful evidence, while the claim that you are suitable for a Brampton restaurant because the owner is seeking an employee is less clearly explained. The reference to your car and licence adds a practical qualification, but you could connect it more explicitly to the role. A slightly fuller explanation of your cooking skills and the position sought would strengthen the letter further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information follows a generally sensible order: you refer to the meeting, describe your experience, and then explain additional duties and practical qualifications. Paragraphing also separates the opening from the main application details. However, the progression within the second paragraph is somewhat crowded, with several points joined into long sentences. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “In addition to this” are noticeable and do not always express the relationship between ideas accurately; “However” introduces supporting information rather than a contrast. The reference to “you are also looking for a new employee” is not fully clear in context. Use shorter, more focused paragraphs and choose linking phrases that show the precise connection between each point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a job enquiry, including “customer handling,” “staff scheduling,” “valid driver license,” and “valuable for your business.” These details communicate relevant experience and practical skills. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, such as “apply for the job we just discussed in plane,” “had a meeting in plane,” and “open to work as a cook.” “Meeting” also sounds overly formal for a conversation during a flight. There are minor presentation issues, including spaces before commas in “Moreover ,” and “However ,”. Aim for more natural phrases such as “discussed on the flight,” “interested in working as a cook,” and “three years’ experience in a pizza restaurant.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the sentence beginning “At that time you told me…” and the clause explaining that your current duties make you suitable. Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. These include the missing article in “in plane” and “I own car,” the incorrect pattern “suggested me to contact,” and the awkward construction “in case it is required orders or deliveries.” The sentence beginning “my current job includes” also becomes difficult to follow because several duties and the suitability claim are packed together. Review articles, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries, and use a clearer construction such as “He suggested that I contact you” and “I own a car.”
