Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Kashif,

I hope you are doing well. We met during our plane journey from Karachi to Lahore, one month ago. I sat next to you and you told me about your chain of chinese restaurants in different cities. Moreover, you suggested me to contact you for a job in one of your restaurant.

I would be delighted to do a job related to dealing with customers. I can do the job of a floor manager. I believe that it is beneficial for my career growth because I will get the chance to deal with a variety of individuals and understand their nature. Furthermore, I can ensure that the services we provide will satisfy the customers.

I believe that I am suitable for this job because I have been working in a customer care for three years. I have the experience to deal the customer clamly, listen the issues and resolve it without creating fuss; in addition, I have the ability to satisfy the customer. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Zara Shaikh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three points clearly: you remind Kashif that you met on the Karachi–Lahore flight, identify a floor-manager role involving customer service, and explain your three years of customer-care experience. The reasons for your suitability are relevant, especially your ability to listen to customers and resolve their issues. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout, and the opening and closing are appropriate. To strengthen the response further, develop the connection between your experience and restaurant-floor responsibilities—for example, explain how you would handle complaints during busy service or support restaurant staff. The career-growth point is understandable, but a little more emphasis on what you can contribute to his business would make the case more persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you establish the previous meeting, state the job you want, and then explain your suitability. Paragraphing supports this sequence, while phrases such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “in addition” help connect related points. The reader can follow the message without difficulty. Some linking is slightly mechanical, however, and several ideas repeat the same point about satisfying customers. You could improve flow by combining the repeated claims and using a more direct transition from your customer-care experience to the duties of a floor manager. For example, a sentence explaining how you would apply your complaint-handling skills in a restaurant would create a stronger link between the final two paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose, and phrases such as “a variety of individuals,” “career growth,” and “resolve” show some range beyond basic wording. The meaning is generally clear, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. For instance, “suggested me to contact you” would be more natural as “suggested that I contact you,” while “do a job related to dealing with customers” is vague compared with “work in a customer-facing role.” “Customer care” and “satisfy the customer” are also repeated; more specific terms such as “customer service” and “meet customers’ needs” would make the letter sound more fluent and professional. Check spelling in “calmly” as well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I believe that I am suitable for this job because…” and a sentence with several linked actions. Most errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. However, some grammatical patterns need more control. In “one month ago,” the time phrase is better placed as “a month ago”; “in one of your restaurant” needs a plural noun or an article; and “listen the issues and resolve it” has missing grammatical elements and unclear pronoun agreement. The sentence beginning “I have the experience to deal…” would be clearer as “I have experience dealing calmly with customers, listening to their concerns, and resolving them.” Practising articles, verb patterns, and pronoun agreement would improve accuracy.
