Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well and I am writing this letter to reminds you about my job you offered me when we met for the first time.

Firstly, I want to tell you that we recently meet with each other in a plane travelling to Dubai and you tell me about your restaurants in different cities in Pakistan.

Secondly, you suggest me that I contact you for a job in one of your hotel branch. Therefore, I want to inform you that I want to work as a manager in your restaurant because I completed my course in hotel management.

Lastly, I will be better choice for this post because I have two years experience in a hotel. Moreover, I have also attended your various workshops on the management of hotel. Thus, I believe that I am suitable for this post in your hotel organization.

I hope you will consider me for manager post and I will never let you down in future.

I am looking forward for your prompt response.

Yours sincerely,

Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three required points: you remind the businessman that you met on a flight to Dubai, request a restaurant-manager position, and give relevant reasons for your suitability, including hotel-management training and two years’ experience. The reference to his workshops adds a personal detail. The purpose is clear, but some information is less fully developed: the meeting is not anchored to a specific time, and your experience and workshop attendance are asserted without explaining what skills or achievements they gave you. The letter is appropriately formal and ends with a clear request. To strengthen it further, add a brief example of your management experience and specify when the journey took place, while keeping the focus on how you could contribute to his restaurant.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, paragraphs covering the meeting and job request, a paragraph explaining your suitability, and a closing. The sequence is easy to follow, and expressions such as “Moreover” and “Thus” help show how your reasons connect. However, “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly” make the progression feel somewhat mechanical, and the repeated “I want to” phrasing gives the middle paragraphs a list-like quality. Some links could also be more precise: “Therefore” does not clearly explain why the earlier suggestion leads to your choice of manager role. Use fewer numbered transitions and connect ideas through their meaning—for example, link your training directly to the responsibilities of the position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the purpose and relevant details, including “hotel management,” “experience,” “workshops,” and “suitable.” The tone is generally appropriate for a formal enquiry. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, such as “hotel branch,” “better choice for this post,” and “hotel organization.” “Job you offered me” also suggests a definite offer, whereas the prompt says he suggested contacting him about a possible job. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for standard employment and restaurant collocations, such as “position at one of your restaurants” and “a strong candidate,” and avoid repeating broad terms like “post.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, and the reader can follow the main message. Some sentence patterns are handled successfully, including “because I completed my course in hotel management” and “I have also attended your various workshops.” However, there are several errors in verb forms and sentence construction: “to reminds” should be “to remind,” “we recently meet” should be “we recently met,” and “you tell me” should be “you told me.” The phrase “I am looking forward for” also has an incorrect preposition in this grammatical pattern. These errors are noticeable, although the intended meaning remains clear. Review past-tense forms when describing the flight and use accurate infinitive and verb-preposition patterns; then check each sentence for agreement and tense consistency.
