Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Michael,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing to remind you that during our recent plane journey, I sat next to you and you adviced me to contact you for possible employment opportunities in one of your restaurants.
I was fortunate enough to meet you during our flight from India to Canada on 10th October, 2026 from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. I had a pleasure to meet you at the airport lounge, while we were waiting for the boarding at gate number six. I remember during our conversation you told me that you are an entrepreneur who owns a chain of restaurants in Ontario, Canada.
I am currently seeking for an employment in a restaurant. I have enough experience working for an elite restaurant in Ontario for past 4 years as a restaurant supervisor. Unfortunately, the restaurant where I was employed is shutting down due to owner's sudden demise and he had no kids to handle the legacy forward.
I am very much confident that I would be suitable for a Managerial position in one of your restaurants because of my experience and also my education background is Masters in Hotel Management. It would be a wonderful experience working for your team.I hope you may find a job placement for me in one of your restaurants.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hear from you soon.
Your's faithfully,
Altaf

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear purpose: you identify the flight from India to Canada, explain that you want a managerial role, and support your suitability with four years as a supervisor and a master’s degree in hotel management. These details make the request relevant and reasonably well supported. The explanation that your former restaurant is closing also gives useful context. To make the case more fully developed, connect your experience and qualification to specific managerial duties or strengths, such as staff supervision or customer service. The opening and closing are appropriate, although “Dear Michael” assumes a name not supplied in the prompt; use the businessman’s name only if you know it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, sensible sequence: you explain why you are writing, recall the meeting, describe your job search, and then make your case for the role. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking phrases such as “Unfortunately” and “because of” make relationships between ideas clear. The progression is easy to follow throughout. Some details in the meeting paragraph, including the airport lounge and gate number, could be more tightly connected to the main purpose, and the final request repeats the idea of seeking a job. For a more polished flow, keep the reminder concise and use the space to develop your relevant qualifications and strengths.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal employment enquiry, including “employment opportunities,” “restaurant supervisor,” “entrepreneur,” and “Masters in Hotel Management.” These choices communicate the situation clearly, and some less common terms show an effort to be precise. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “seeking for an employment,” “handle the legacy forward,” and “job placement for me.” “Elite restaurant” may also sound less natural than a more specific description of the establishment. Aim for conventional collocations and concise wording; this would make the letter sound more fluent and professionally controlled while preserving your clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and most ideas remain understandable. For example, the sentence beginning “Unfortunately, the restaurant where I was employed…” combines a relative clause with a reason for the closure. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “you adviced me” should be “you advised me,” “I had a pleasure” needs an article adjustment, and “I look forward to hear from you” should be “I look forward to hearing from you.” There are also issues with patterns such as “seeking for” and punctuation in “your team.I hope.” Review verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread carefully to improve accuracy.
