Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well.I am writing to remind you about my job in one of the restaurant which you own.
We meet during our flight from Canada to Pakistan, one week ago and I was setting next to your seat.
I am keen to have the post of manager in one of your restaurant located in Peshawar, because it is very close to my home and I no longer want to work abroad.
I believe that I would be suitable candidate for this position, because I have an experience of ten years as a manager in a foreign country. My bachelor's degree is also in management and I can allocate all the team members accurately to their position.
Additionally, I live close to the restaurant so it is very feasible for me. The job will also support me financially so I don't have to worry for my family support.
I am looking forward to a positive response from you.
Yours sincerely,
Asad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the flight from Canada to Pakistan, request a restaurant manager position in Peshawar, and give relevant reasons, including ten years’ management experience and a degree in management. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for contacting a potential employer. However, some details are less fully developed: for example, you say you can allocate team members to roles but do not illustrate this with a specific achievement or explain what management skills you would bring. The opening also says “remind you about my job,” which could suggest you already have a job there rather than are enquiring about one. Clarifying the request and extending your evidence would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you recall the meeting, state the role you want, explain your suitability, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main stages, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “because” make relationships between ideas clear. Some connections are less smooth or repetitive, however. The reasons that the restaurant is near your home and that the job would support your family are presented separately without a clear link to your professional suitability. The opening also moves quickly from the purpose to the meeting details. A more deliberate paragraph structure—one paragraph for the meeting and request, another for qualifications and experience—would strengthen progression and make the letter easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “keen,” “suitable candidate,” “management,” and “financially.” The language is relevant to a job enquiry, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. For instance, “remind you about my job” does not clearly express that you are enquiring about a vacancy, and “my family support” is not the natural phrase for your financial responsibilities. “Allocate all the team members accurately to their position” is also awkwardly phrased. Aim for more precise employment-related expressions and check common collocations. The meaning remains understandable overall, but more natural wording would make the letter sound more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because” and “so,” and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “We meet” should use a past-tense form, while “one of the restaurant” needs a plural noun after “one of.” In “I would be suitable candidate,” an article is missing. There is also a missing space after the full stop in “well.I,” and the sentence beginning “Additionally” has a comma splice between two independent clauses. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, but proofreading verb tense, article use, and punctuation would improve accuracy and control.
