Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Taylor,

The intent of this correspondence is to bring your attention to this matter and seek an appropriate resolution.

Regarding my point, I would like to highlight a few important observations. Recently, we met on a plane, during our journey from Dubai to Canada, last week. We have talked earlier, that you own restaurants in Toronto, Kitchener and Ajax.

I am really interested to work in food industry. On top of that, I am studying 'Hospital Management', so i would love to grow my career in that field. Moreover, I am keenly interested in doing a line cook job, if any position available. Additionally, I am fine with any jobs like cashier, server, kitchen helper.

I am so organised and tidy person. I am so fond of making a food.I used to cook since i was eighteen year old. In cooking i know how to make pizza, some indian dishes, some sweets, burger, starters, thai food, korean food, chienese food as well. That would be immensely beneficial, if you allow me to come for an interview and i can make any dish for you for testing.

I extend my appreciation for your consideration and i anticipate your valued response at your earliest convenience.

Yours sincerely,

Maitri Bavarva

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you remind Taylor that you met on the flight from Dubai to Canada, identify your interest in a line-cook role, and explain your cooking experience and studies. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader a clear reason to consider you. However, some points are less fully developed: the meeting is described only briefly, and your suitability would be more convincing with a specific example of responsibility, teamwork, or experience in a professional kitchen. The opening, “The intent of this correspondence…,” and the closing are also unusually formal for a personal follow-up after a conversation. A more direct, warm tone would make the purpose clearer and better suit the situation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it moves from recalling the meeting to describing the role you want, then gives reasons you may be suitable and closes with a request for an interview. Paragraphing helps separate these stages. Some linking is mechanical, however, particularly the repeated “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “On top of that.” The opening paragraph also begins with a general statement about seeking a resolution, which does not connect naturally to the specific purpose of contacting Taylor. The sequence of job preferences could be clearer: state your first choice, then explain that you would consider other roles. Use fewer, more purposeful transitions and make references such as “that field” unmistakably clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including relevant terms such as “line cook,” “cashier,” “server,” and “kitchen helper,” as well as “organised” and “beneficial.” These choices communicate your interests and qualities. There are some inaccurate or unnatural collocations, including “interested to work in food industry,” “fond of making a food,” and “for testing.” The list of cuisines and dishes also contains spelling errors, such as “chienese,” and could be expressed more selectively to sound more professional. The very formal phrases “intent of this correspondence” and “valued response” do not fit the friendly context. Aim for natural, precise wording suited to a direct job enquiry.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “I am studying ‘Hospital Management’, so I would love to grow my career in that field.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing articles in “I am so organised and tidy person” and “in food industry,” and the construction “I am really interested to work,” which needs a different verb pattern. In “we met on a plane, during our journey,” punctuation is missing after the comma, while “I used to cook since I was eighteen” mixes verb forms in a way that obscures the intended time relationship. Check articles, verb patterns, tense choices, and sentence punctuation carefully; these corrections would make your varied sentences more controlled.
