Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to gather more information about a job requirements in one of your restaurants as you suggested me during our flight.
We met while boarding a flight together from India to newzeland at Delhi international airport last week. We had a good conversation about your widely popular restaurants across Newzeland. While, discussing about current scenario in hotel industry, you mentioned about shortage of employees. Therefore, you suggested me to get in touch, while looking for possible job role in one of your chain.
I am interested in responsibility that will focus on managemental roles like supervisor because I pursued my bachelors in business management and i believe i would be perfect candidate. Moreover, additional skills such as good comunication also serve my role effectively. Furthermore, i also have had earlier experience of working in a food facilites which could help me to learn job responsibilty effectively.
I am looking forward for your response.
Yours sincerely,
Rohan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the flight from Delhi to New Zealand last week, state that you want a supervisory or management role, and give relevant reasons, including your business-management degree, communication skills, and previous food-service experience. This makes the letter purposeful and relevant. However, some details are less fully developed: the experience is mentioned without saying what duties you performed, and your suitability would be more convincing with a specific example of a skill or achievement. The opening and closing are appropriate, though “Dear Sir” is less personal than addressing him by name if you know it. Adding a clear request for a meeting or information about vacancies would also make the purpose more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you explain why you are writing, recall the meeting, describe the role you want, and finish with a polite closing. Paragraphing separates the background from your qualifications, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help connect supporting points. The sequence is easy to follow, although the repeated additive links make the qualifications paragraph feel somewhat list-like. The sentence beginning “While, discussing…” also interrupts the flow between the conversation and the job suggestion. For stronger progression, connect your experience directly to the supervisor role and vary the transitions, while keeping the main purpose clear in the opening and closing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to employment and hospitality, including “management,” “supervisor,” “shortage of employees,” and “experience.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but several inaccurate or unnatural expressions limit precision and make the letter less fluent. For example, “job requirements” does not quite express your purpose, “managemental roles” is not a natural phrase, and “food facilites” appears to mean food-service facilities or a food-service business. There are also spelling errors such as “Newzeland,” “comunication,” and “responsibilty.” Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more effective without needing unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “because,” and the reader can generally understand your message. However, some grammatical errors remain in sentence construction and article use. For instance, “a job requirements” has a mismatch between the article and plural noun, while “I believe i would be perfect candidate” needs consistent capitalisation and an article before “perfect candidate.” The construction “you suggested me” also needs a different grammatical pattern, such as “you suggested that I contact you.” Punctuation is occasionally awkward, particularly the comma after “While” and the extra spacing around commas. Review articles, verb patterns, and sentence punctuation to improve accuracy.
