Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Anish,
I hope you are doing great today. I am writing this letter to remind to that am Simran and we met in Air India plane during a trip to India and i want to tell you that i am intersted in your offer.
I am not sure you still remember me or not but we had little conversation about work during our trip to India as we were sitting next to each other. To move foreword, i think about that and i would like to request you if you can help to get job in one of your resturants because i have past 5 years experience in the same field. It would be great if you have a vacany of supervisor or manager.
As you have long chain of resturants hope you will offer me a better position after looking my relevant experince in this field. I will wait for your response and hope you will not disappoint me.
Yours faithfully,
Simz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The letter addresses the three main points: you identify the meeting as taking place on an Air India flight during a trip to India, express interest in a restaurant job, and give five years of experience as a reason you may be suitable. However, some details are not fully developed. The job preference is expressed as “supervisor or manager,” but you could clarify which role you are seeking and what responsibilities or skills make you a good fit. The reference to the journey is also general; adding when it happened would make the reminder more specific. The request is understandable, though the closing line “hope you will not disappoint me” may sound demanding rather than professional. A more courteous, focused letter would address the purpose more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The message has a recognisable structure: an opening, a paragraph recalling the conversation and making the request, and a closing. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the letter. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. “To move foreword” does not clearly signal the next point, and the second paragraph combines the job request, your experience, and the preferred positions in a long sequence. The opening also repeats the purpose by saying both that you are writing to remind him and that you want to discuss his offer. Use clearer paragraphing to separate the meeting, the role sought, and your suitability, and choose linking phrases that express the relationship between ideas precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “experience,” “supervisor,” “manager,” and “position.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce the letter’s polish: “intersted,” “resturants,” “vacany,” and “experince” are noticeable, while “help to get job” is not a natural collocation. “Long chain of restaurants” is understandable but imprecise in this context. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural professional phrases, such as “apply for a position” and “relevant experience.” These improvements would make your request clearer and more appropriate for writing to a potential employer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, for example the sentence beginning “I am not sure you still remember me or not.” The main meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are evident. In the opening, “remind to that am Simran” is missing the correct structure (“remind you that I am Simran”), and “if you can help to get job” needs an article and a more complete pattern. The sentence beginning “As you have long chain…” is also incomplete as written. Use complete clauses, check articles and pronouns, and break long sentences into shorter units. More accurate control of these patterns would make the letter easier to read.
