Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
My name is Vandana. I met you on the plane while travelling from India to Canada. I really like your company; time flies while talking with you. Also, I gained so much knowledge about the world from you. As you said, you own multiple Subway franchise stores. I am a Job seeker and interested in working with you.
To be more specific about myself, I completed a Bachelor of Arts at Punjab University. I am pursuing a Master of Management at Providence University. Additionally, I also had work experience in a restaurant for one year. I know about Customer Service, Cleaning Tasks, teamwork, pos and food safety. I have a certificate in Food Service. I would be grateful to work with you. If you have opportunity, you can contact me through email.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
yours faithfully,
Vandana

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover the three requested points: you identify the journey from India to Canada, express interest in working for the businessman, and give relevant qualifications and experience. The details about your management studies, one year in a restaurant, and food-service certificate help explain your suitability. However, the job you want is not specific: “interested in working with you” does not say whether you seek a service, kitchen, or supervisory role. The reason you would suit that particular job is therefore only partly developed. The response is also six words below the required minimum. State the role clearly and add a brief example of how your experience or skills would help you perform it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you recall the meeting, introduce your background, and close with a request for contact. Linking expressions such as “Also,” “Additionally,” and “To be more specific” help the reader follow the progression, and the information is grouped into two main paragraphs. To make the organisation more effective, separate the reminder and job request from the qualifications, and connect each qualification directly to the role you want. The transition “To be more specific about myself” is somewhat mechanical, while the final contact request could follow more naturally from a clearly stated job interest. A more conventional closing and consistent paragraph spacing would also make the letter feel more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “work experience,” “Customer Service,” “teamwork,” “food safety,” and “certificate in Food Service.” These terms communicate useful qualifications, and the reader can understand your purpose. However, some expressions are broad or unnatural for a job enquiry: “I am a Job seeker” and “interested in working with you” do not identify a position, while “I really like your company” is less precise than a professional expression of interest. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Customer Service” and “Cleaning Tasks.” Choose more specific employment vocabulary and use natural collocations, such as naming a restaurant role and describing your relevant skills as experience in customer service and food preparation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your message is generally understandable, and you use a mix of simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “I am pursuing a Master of Management at Providence University” and “If you have opportunity, you can contact me through email.” Some grammatical errors remain, including the missing article in “If you have opportunity” and the awkward construction “I know about Customer Service, Cleaning Tasks, teamwork, pos and food safety.” The sentence “time flies while talking with you” also needs a clearer subject for the implied action. Most ideas remain accessible, but these errors and the reliance on straightforward sentence patterns limit accuracy and range. Check articles and sentence construction, and practise combining qualifications into accurate, varied sentences.
