Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mamjot,
I am writing this letter to remind you about our conversation in the plane and inform you about my interest in cooking based job.
Recently, when I made my journey from jaipur to toronto. I met with you in the plane and we had an interesting conversation. You shared with me about chain of restaurants which you owned. During that conversation, you also asked me to apply for job in your restaurant. After a lot of consideration , I decided to apply for job.
To be honest, as I mentioned you earlier, I used to work as chef in one of best restaurant in my city. Therefore, I would like to tell you about my interest working as chef in your restaurant. I would be grateful to you if I can help me to appoint as cook in the restaurant.
Thank you soo much for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Lovepreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter covers the three requested points: you refer to meeting on the Jaipur-to-Toronto flight, express interest in a chef role, and mention previous restaurant experience. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. However, the suitability point is only briefly supported by saying you worked as a chef; adding how long you worked, what cuisine or duties you handled, or a specific strength would develop it more fully. The job request is also unclear in “I would be grateful to you if I can help me to appoint,” so the reader may not know whether you are asking for an interview or a position. A clearer, more direct request would make the letter more effective.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the opening states your purpose, the next paragraph recalls the meeting, and the following paragraph explains your job interest and experience. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the letter, and links such as “Recently” and “Therefore” show the intended progression. Some connections are less smooth, however: “Recently, when I made my journey…” is a sentence fragment, and the shift from recalling the conversation to applying could be more direct. The final thanks and sign-off provide a suitable ending, though the letter would flow better if the request and evidence of suitability were clearly separated and linked.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “conversation,” “chain of restaurants,” “apply,” and “chef.” The wording is generally understandable, but several choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as “cooking based job,” “made my journey,” and “interest working as chef.” “Restaurant” and “job” are also repeated, and “soo” is an informal spelling that does not suit a formal application letter. Aim for more natural collocations and a slightly wider range, for example, “position as a chef,” “travelled from Jaipur to Toronto,” and “professional experience in a restaurant kitchen.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and some attempts at more complex forms, such as “After a lot of consideration, I decided to apply for job.” The main meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. “Recently, when I made my journey from Jaipur to Toronto” is a dependent clause without a main clause; “you asked me to apply for job” needs an article, and “I used to work as chef” also needs one. In “I would be grateful to you if I can help me to appoint,” the conditional structure and pronouns are faulty. Check sentence completeness, articles, and verb patterns, and use a clear request such as “I would be grateful if you would consider me for a chef position.”
