Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, in many countries facing shortage of housings because population is increasing. Some people believe that it is protecting countryside is important, while others think that building new housings in the countryside is necessary. I partially agree that countryside should be protected, but i also believe some houses can be built if it is carefully planed.

On the one hand, protecting the environment is important for nature and agriculture. It provides fresh air, clear water and safe habitat for animals and plants. it also produces food for people. For example, If areas of farmland are replaced by new housing projects, food production may decreased. wildlife may lose their natural place to live. Therefore, protecting the countryside is necessary for environment and future generation.

On the other hand, building new houses is necessary because people need affordable place to live. In many cities, land is limited and houses rate is rising. if carefully planed housing in the selected countryside area can solve this problem without casing environmental damage. For instance, governments should build eco-friendly houses, create green spaces, and encourage people to protect farmland places.

In conclusion, I believe protecting a countryside is essential for nature and farming. I also think that building housing in the countryside also necessary for rising demand of homes for population. This approach can meet growing demand for homes while preserving nature.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the need for housing and the importance of protecting the countryside. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of development. While the position is clear, the arguments remain somewhat superficial. For example, the suggestion of 'eco-friendly houses' is a good point, but it is not expanded upon with sufficient detail or specific examples to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7 or higher. To improve, you must expand your supporting ideas and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor grammatical errors and repetitive phrasing. The transition between ideas is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the flow between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'necessary', and 'good'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'houses rate' instead of 'housing prices' or 'casing' instead of 'causing'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to urban planning and environmental conservation. Using a wider variety of synonyms and more sophisticated phrasing would significantly enhance your lexical profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'shortage of housings' (should be 'housing'), 'it is protecting countryside' (should be 'protecting the countryside'), and 'if carefully planed' (should be 'if carefully planned'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are issues with capitalization, such as the lowercase 'i' used for the first-person pronoun. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
