Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is widely acknowledged that in numerous places, new homes are needed to accommodate people but space is only available in the rural areas. Some individuals are of the view that new homes should not be built to protect the countryside areas. In my perspective, the government needs to protect countryside as it offers long-term benefits to save the environment.
To commence with, the main reason why rural areas need to be protected is to save the environment. If construction begin in wild-life areas, then species will not have space to live. As a result, they will start becoming extinct. For instance, it has been headline in many newspapers that many wild animals often visit villages. In forests there is only limited area left, which is not enough for all the living species. As a result, in search of food they sometimes come to village areas and kill pat animals such as cow and dog. Hence, it is crucial to not disturb their living area.
Furthermore, farmers are mostly dependable on farming lands to cover their living expenses. If it is occupied by construction, then they will have to find another work, which requires extra efforts. Similarly, the government also has to import raw food items from another countries, which will not only lead to higher prices of essential items of daily life but will also affect nation's economy. For example, India has to import rice at higher price from China because there is not suitable land left for rice to grow.
To sum up, rural areas play a vital role to save the environment and help nations to maintain goods prices; however, the government can replace low-rise building to high-rise building to overcome crisis of new home to accommodate citizens.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for protecting the countryside, such as environmental preservation and the protection of agricultural land. The ideas are extended with examples, such as the mention of wildlife encroachment and the economic impact of food imports. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully developed; for instance, the link between high-rise buildings and the housing crisis is a good point, but it could be explained in more detail to show how it serves as a viable alternative to rural development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, in the second paragraph, the connection between wildlife and the specific example of animals visiting villages is clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking phrases rather than relying heavily on 'As a result'. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and supports the progression of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accommodate', 'extinct', 'dependable', and 'essential'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'pat animals' (likely meaning 'pet animals') and 'replace low-rise building to high-rise building' (should be 'replace low-rise buildings with high-rise buildings'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, these occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Focusing on more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help you achieve a higher band in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'If construction begin' (should be 'begins'), 'from another countries' (should be 'from other countries'), and 'at higher price' (should be 'at a higher price'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, such as using more conditional or passive constructions, would also strengthen your performance in this area.
