Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's era, It is indeed fact that almost everyone prefers to live alone, that is significantly increasing the need of houses; however, there is no space available to build new houses except villages. While some people believe that protecting the countryside is more important by not building houses there. I completely agree with this view.

The predominant reason is a negative impact on public services and facilities. To understand, whenever any new houses are build, it come with its own problems such as more staff requirement at hospitals, convenient stores, parks and public transportations to meet the demand by the people of new household. As a result, every public amenities may take a big hit on them and the overall quality of these services may fall below standards.

Moreover, the beauty of countryside resides in its greenery, farms and open spaces, having additional houses would demolish its true beauty. To illustrate, building more houses take the big portion of the open land, which often has beautiful sceneries. Later, taking more and more portion the countryside becomes the part of a city and gradually loose its own identity.

To conclude, although building new houses are important to meet the needs, it is crucial to protect the countryside. The new homes should not be build there. As it significantly affects the identity, beauty and amenities of the countryside.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is 23 words under the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the main points regarding public services and environmental preservation are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped due to the brevity of the response. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples and provide more depth to your arguments to ensure the word count is met and the ideas are fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'The predominant reason', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel slightly abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression could be smoother with more varied linking words. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the brevity of the content makes the structure feel somewhat thin.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and sophistication. You rely on basic terms like 'big hit' and 'beautiful sceneries'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'convenient stores' (should be 'convenience stores') and 'loose its own identity' (should be 'lose'). To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and collocations to express your ideas with greater nuance and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'It is indeed fact', 'new houses are build' (should be 'built'), 'it come with' (should be 'it comes with'), and 'every public amenities' (should be 'all public amenities'). These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement, passive voice construction, and pluralization.
