Student answer (Band 6.5)

Increasing population in urban areas raise the demands of more accommodation, while, land for houses is only available in the countryside. Others argue that we have to protect village land for the future generations and avoid construction of new homes there. Therefore, I largely agree with the give statements, as constructing new building in countryside provide people peaceful and natural environment, whereas overpopulation in there raise the needs of resources.

On the one hand, the population of city raising day by day due to migration of people from rural to city. Therefore, it would be arduous for the governments to provide them shelter, which fosters individuals to find free land in the village areas. Consequently, it will not only offers natural atmospheres but also escape them from hustle of city life. Moreover, living in a countryside would be affordable, convenient and budget friendly as compared to city. Also, slow-paced life would be more beneficial for the working people in order to get refreshing environment at home after spending long working hours in office. Apart from that, building a new homes in the countryside provide the employment to local people, which improve their standard of living.

On the other hand, migration from city to countryside place pressure on resources like food, transportation and accommodation. Consequently, it would be challenging for governments in certain situations to meet the demands of individuals. Apart from that, construction of new houses significantly damage the agricultural land, natural weather, disturb the wildlife and produce air, water and noise pollution. Therefore, authorities should take correct measures in order to conserve rural areas for the future generations as well as provide shelter to needy people.

In conclusion, countryside offers slow-paced life, which improve the health and well-being of citizens, provide affordable land for new homes. However, it will disrupt the natural habitat, place pressure on resources and contaminate air and water.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the need for housing and the importance of protecting the countryside. However, the position is slightly contradictory; the introduction states you 'largely agree' with the statement, but the body paragraphs present a balanced view without clearly prioritizing one side. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, the argument about 'employment to local people' is mentioned but not explained in detail. To reach a higher band, ensure your position is consistent throughout the essay and provide more specific, extended examples to support your main arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the benefits of countryside living and the mention of employment. Referencing is generally clear, but improving the variety of linking words would help the essay flow more naturally and enhance the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of ideas. You use some topic-specific terms like 'urban areas,' 'natural habitat,' and 'standard of living.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'raise the demands' (should be 'increase the demand') and 'escape them from hustle' (should be 'escape the hustle'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary would also help demonstrate a higher level of control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'population... raise the demands,' 'building a new homes... provide') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'overpopulation in there raise the needs of resources.' While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
