Student answer (Band 6.5)

With growing population in the world, more and more houses are needed , but, there is no space to built new houses except in countryside. Many people think that countryside should not be used for housing development instead people should protect this space. I completely disagree to this statement as it is important to fulfill the housing needs of people and used alternatives ways to protect the rural areas.

The first and foremost reason to built new homes in rural areas because it has plenty of field and unused land . A few number of people prefer to live in countryside like whose are dependent on agriculture and livestock for living. Therefore, the empty land can be used to construct homes. Specially for people who wants to lead a simple lifestyle and new homes can be built without disturbing the peaceful life of local people.

The metropolitan areas are already populated and cost of living and housing is very high. This cause a lot of struggle for many families to live in suitable place with their kids . However, if new homes are constructed in rural areas then it can solve the problem of shortage of housing and it is also affordable as compare to construct new house in city. This practice can balance the population in both cities and countryside and improve the quality of life.

I believe that restricting the society to built homes in countryside is not ideal solution to protect these places. People can better contribute to maintain the quality of natural space by educating the people to plant more and more trees and use the land wisely. People should be aware about that which factors contribute to pollute the natural places and avoid to use them.

In conclusion, I think that it is mandatory to provide the new homes as the population has been increased as compare to past few years. However, it is public responsibility to safeguard the rural areas along with housing construction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. Your ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of rural housing and the potential for sustainable development. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed. For instance, the suggestion to 'educate people to plant more trees' as a solution to urban sprawl is a bit vague and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are more specific and directly address the tension between housing needs and environmental protection. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The first and foremost reason,' 'However,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, the use of linking words is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This cause a lot of struggle' or 'as compare to.' Additionally, some transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of the argument is generally easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your opinions clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'housing development,' 'metropolitan areas,' and 'lifestyle.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'no space to built' (should be 'build'), 'A few number of people' (should be 'A small number of people'), and 'restricting the society' (should be 'restricting the development'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('population has been increased'), incorrect verb forms ('no space to built'), and missing articles ('in countryside' should be 'in the countryside'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While you attempt complex sentences, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense and article usage would significantly improve your score.
