Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that new homes are needed but the only space is left in the countryside and I totally agree with people that we should protect our countryside area because to build new homes we need to cut the forests which leads to deforestation so, it will affects the nature. One of the main reason is that nowadays humans are building more and more houses, buildings, apartments for their own business purpose so that later on, they can give it on rental basis and earn income from them. On the other side rich people are buying property even if they don’t need it and some people like to invest in real estate and people who actually need it won’t able to buy because many of the property are already taken by realtors and rich people. Therefore, there will be need of new homes and to build it they need to cut the forests and acquire some places which are made for animals to live there which is harmful for earth. For example, by cutting forests it will increase in global warming which affects ozone layer of earth, melting glaciers becomes the reason of floods, and there will be no shelter for animals. Eventually, it will affects not only the nature but animals also. According to my opinion, government should take actions or implement a rule that people can buy certain amount of property for instance if 4 people lives in a family, can buy only 2 houses and accordingly. By doing this , there will be more properties left which other people can buy who actually need it and they won’t need to use the countryside area so that animals also can live happily because that is the only house for them.

Overall, it’s not only one person can do it but we should come together as individuals to take the responsibility of not harming our nature intentionally or unintentionally.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide a clear argument against building in the countryside, the link between real estate speculation and the necessity of building in the countryside is slightly tenuous. The essay would benefit from more direct engagement with the counter-argument—that new homes are indeed needed—before refuting it. The suggestion regarding government property limits is a creative solution, but it is presented in a somewhat simplistic manner. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more logically connected to the core issue of housing demand versus environmental preservation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, though the structure is quite basic. You use some cohesive devices like 'Therefore', 'For example', and 'Overall', but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. Some transitions feel abrupt, such as the jump from discussing real estate investors to the environmental impact of deforestation. Furthermore, the use of referencing is sometimes unclear; for instance, the phrase 'and accordingly' at the end of the second paragraph is vague and does not effectively link back to the previous point. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your opinions clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'deforestation', 'global warming', and 'real estate'. However, there is a reliance on repetitive and basic phrasing, such as 'people', 'things', and 'build'. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'give it on rental basis' instead of 'rent them out' and 'acquire some places' instead of 'encroach upon land'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations to demonstrate a wider range and more sophisticated control of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it will affects', 'melting glaciers becomes'), article usage ('the ozone layer of earth'), and punctuation errors, particularly with comma splices and run-on sentences. For example, the sentence 'For example, by cutting forests it will increase in global warming...' is grammatically awkward. To achieve a higher band, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and reducing these recurring errors, while also attempting more varied complex structures with greater accuracy.
