Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no denying that housing has become severe issue in recent years because of rising population. Now, this matter has been a part of the argument that housing spaces are not available in the urban areas and it can be only resolved if new houses start to build in the rural areas. However, some people deny this idea by saying that it is more crucial to save the countryside as more homes would spoil the beauty of nature. I totally agree with this statement.

One of the main reasons is to protect nature. To elaborate on this, if government takes initiative to make homes in the countryside, then it would cause more damage to the flora and fauna. To build new more homes, they will have to cut the trees to create more spaces which will cause more damage for the environment along with the residents. Not only that, it would also interfere in the life of wildlife which can cause many issues.

Moreover, another causes is more population which will surely create number of problems. For instance, if new homes are built, then more people would start living there and their demands would grow which would also damage the beauty of countryside. Eventually, these places probably convert into urban places because of more chaos. Thus, it would be better if high authorities consider this matter seriously.

To conclude, I would say that new housing should not be built in the rural areas as it would spoil the peaceful life of many villagers and animals as well. Instead, government should make a policy to control the birth rate so that housing problem can be solved.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for protecting the countryside, such as environmental damage and the loss of rural character. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'birth rate' in the conclusion is a new, underdeveloped idea that was not introduced or supported in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that all main points are fully extended with specific examples or logical consequences within the body paragraphs rather than introducing them at the very end.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'To elaborate on this', and 'To conclude' to link your ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the environmental impact and the social impact could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'flora and fauna', 'urban areas', and 'rural areas'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'new more homes' and 'another causes is'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of synonyms for common words like 'damage' or 'build' would help demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the government', 'a severe issue'), pluralization ('another causes'), and verb forms ('start to build' should be 'start building'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To move to a higher band, focus on improving your accuracy with articles and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, with greater precision.
