Student answer (Band 6.5)
For accommodation, demand to build new houses has increased significantly, the only space available to construct homes is in the rural areas. While some individuals think that the countryside should be kept protected, I believe that avoiding to do that can result in more serious issues.
Some argue that building new houses in the remote area may result in inconvenience among villagers. In other words, demand for facilities increases with the population, making it extremely challenging to facilitate several amenities. To give an example, general infrastructures such as a hospital or a bus station designed specifically to provide service for a number of people, now, have to incorporate with increased population. However, such problems can be solved by the government by spending enough funds to extend these facilities.
If the countryside is not considered for constructing new apartments, other natural landscapes would be put under threat. Deforestation, for instance, can result in serous problems. To be more specific, it would leave adverse impacts not only on the environment but also on the biodiversity. This is because wild species would suffer if the officials allow builders to construct residential buildings in the forest area.
To conclude, according to many people, new homes should not be built in the village area as it can increase inconvenience for its citizens. However, such problems can be resolved through aid provided by the authorities. Additionally, if not the countryside, other natural resources such as the forest would suffer serious issues that can result in environmental degradation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed the prompt by presenting a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You acknowledge the counter-argument regarding the protection of the countryside and provide a rebuttal, which is a key requirement for a high band score. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'general infrastructures' could be more deeply explored with specific examples of how government funding can mitigate these issues. While you have covered all parts of the task, the depth of your analysis is slightly restricted, which prevents it from reaching the highest band. Ensure that your supporting points are fully extended to demonstrate a more sophisticated level of argumentation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
Your essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'In other words', 'To give an example', and 'Additionally' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be more fluid to better connect the two distinct arguments. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the development of your argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity', 'environmental degradation', and 'incorporate'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'avoiding to do that' (should be 'avoiding doing that') and 'incorporate with' (should be 'incorporate' or 'accommodate'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some collocations are slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'demand to build' (should be 'demand for building') and 'serous' (spelling error). Additionally, the phrase 'if not the countryside' in the conclusion is slightly awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after certain verbs. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
