Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, arguing against building in the countryside. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact on wildlife and the alternative of urban redevelopment. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding urban redevelopment is supported by a specific example, but the explanation of how this would practically work is brief. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band. The conclusion is present but slightly repetitive in its phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'There and some reason of this both notion' and 'To put in nutshell'. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow. The referencing is generally clear, but some phrasing makes the logical links between sentences feel slightly disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'atrocious', 'biodiversity', and 'metropolitan', though some collocations are inaccurate, such as 'high demands of shelters' or 'utility waste areas'. There are also some minor errors in word choice that do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('if houses will construct'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('There and some reason of this both notion'). Punctuation is also inconsistent. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the score.
