Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, land occupancy has become a devastating problem to cure for governments owing to significant proliferation in overall population. To accomodate people the only place is left to construct houses is suburbs. However, some individuals are against to utilisation of countryside's land to build shelters as it is an integral to prevent for other reasons. I completely agree with this given notion and the factors will be elucidated in the ensuing paragraphs to support this.

To commence, it is undeniable fact that construction of new buildings in villages will directly affect environment detrimentally. In other terms, it alleviates the number of trees and agricultural lands too. Consequently, the rain cycle will disturb and scarcity will knock the doors due to minimisation of fertile land. For example, disappearing of forests and outskirts in Japan, lessen rain than average had shortage of wheat, in 2010. Apart from this, building more communities also contributes to hike in a waste materials which enhances land pollution.

Although there could be several measurable solutions to control this situation. The first and foremost is promote to expand normal flats to skyscrapers to reduce consumption of new land. For instance, Australia still has a same amount of green areas as in last decade irrespective of rise in population as local builders have been fostered to upgrade the apartments sizes vertically in Melbourne,Sydney and Gabba. Another feasible solution is imposing high taxes on buyers who are planning to build houses in countryside.

In conclusion, one should be encouraged that countryside areas are unbothered as it negatively impacts on citizens such as food shortages and contamination of land.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You successfully argue against building in the countryside and provide relevant examples, such as the mention of urban planning in Australia. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the link between building in the countryside and the specific example of wheat shortages in Japan is not fully explained, making the argument feel a bit disjointed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is logically connected to your main argument with more detailed explanation rather than just stating the consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'In other terms' (which should be 'In other words') and the sentence fragment 'Although there could be several measurable solutions to control this situation.' This sentence lacks a main clause and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that sentences are complete will help improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items like 'proliferation', 'elucidated', and 'detrimentally'. However, there are several instances of awkward collocation and word choice errors, such as 'alleviates the number of trees' (should be 'reduces'), 'hike in a waste materials' (should be 'increase in waste'), and 'scarcity will knock the doors'. These errors occasionally impede the precision of your argument. Focusing on learning common collocations and using words in their correct context will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'the only place is left to construct houses is suburbs' (incorrect passive voice/word order), 'against to utilisation' (should be 'against the utilization'), and 'it is an integral to prevent' (should be 'it is integral to prevent'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
