Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many places, the demand for new homes is increasing but to build these homes only countryside land is avaialable. Some people believe that the countryside area should be protected and avoid to construct new homes there. I agree that protecting nature is important but some development should be allowed when necessary.

On the one hand, protecting the nature has many benefits. It provides the fresh air, farmland and habitats for animals. If this land is used for making so many homes then the farmland and forests will be destroyed. Moreover, it can cause the pollution and reduce the beauty of nature. Thus, government should use the space wisely and protect the important natural areas.

On the other hand, due to increasing population construct the new homes is also an important factor. People need comfortable and affordable houses to live as cities are getting crowded and there is a chance of increase the prices of houses. So, to use the less environmental areas for buildind new houses can solve the problem of house shortage. Government should ensure that people follow the environmental rules and include green spaces.

I opine that the best solution is to find a balance between making homes and environment protection. The forests, wildlife and farmland should be protected while the carefully planned housing can be built in suitable parts of countryside.

In conclusion, to protect tthe rural areas is very important whereas, the need of building new house cannot be ignored. So, some carefully planned development is necessary to provide homes for a growing population.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You acknowledge the importance of protecting the countryside while also highlighting the necessity of housing development. The ideas are relevant, though some points, such as the specific environmental rules or the 'suitable parts' of the countryside, could have been developed with more concrete examples to reach a higher band. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your balanced view. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph contains a more detailed explanation or a specific example to fully flesh out your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use transition signals such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For instance, the transition between the need for housing and the suggestion of 'environmental rules' could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument, which helps the overall readability of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'environmental rules', 'housing shortage', and 'growing population'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'avoid to construct' (should be 'avoid constructing') and 'use the less environmental areas' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). While you attempt to use a variety of words, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word formation that do not impede communication but prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the nature', 'the beauty of nature'), verb forms ('construct the new homes' instead of 'constructing'), and prepositions ('for buildind'). Some sentences are slightly awkward due to these errors, such as 'there is a chance of increase the prices'. Despite these slips, your control of grammar is sufficient to convey your message without causing significant confusion for the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
