Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the world, the population has been growing at a rapid pace. Therefore, we require new houses to live in. We have to use the outskirts of the city because no space is left in the urban area, However, some individuals argue that rural areas should be protected and should not be used for homes. I personally think that the development of housing should be done in the countryside, but construction of housing will be done, and governments should make sure that the area is not affected.

To begin with, constructing new houses can assist the economy of the city. Helps to the several families get shelter in their homes.

Building houses in a storey building with the construction of multiple shops can generate business opportunities and reduce unemployment. For instance, by passing a grant of housing facilities in the countryside by the municipal corporation of city that helps the middle class and lower-class people buy homes at affordable prices and get their own houses.

Moreover, many individuals personally benefited by building homes at the edge of the city, including age groups such as the elderly and other people who do not like congestion and noise pollution and want to be close to nature. For example, with this development in the far zone of the city, older people were happy, and their health could be improved because of the fresh, pollution-free air.

In my opinion, although building new homes will be beneficial to homeless people and elderly people, nature and the land can be polluted. Furthermore, students and some people can be affected by commuting on a daily basis.

Overall, developing new houses at the outskirts of the city is an excellent plan which enables poor and homeless people to get houses, but nature will be disrupted.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for building in the countryside, such as economic benefits and improved quality of life for the elderly, the counter-argument regarding environmental protection is mentioned but not fully explored or balanced against your main argument. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with specific, logical consequences rather than just stating the benefit.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Overall', to link your points. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Helps to the several families get shelter in their homes', which lacks a clear subject. Additionally, the referencing within sentences is sometimes unclear, making the flow feel a bit disjointed in places. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence clearly connects to the previous one will enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'congestion', 'noise pollution', and 'municipal corporation'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'passing a grant of housing facilities' and 'far zone of the city'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and environmental sustainability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'Helps to the several families get shelter' is grammatically incorrect, and there are issues with article usage and sentence fragments, such as 'but construction of housing will be done'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that every sentence has a clear, complete structure.
