Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been seen that demand for new houses is increasing at an alarming rate. In most of the territories, outskirts are the easy available space for construction of new houses but few people are in faisar to save that land. I will discuss reasons related to their believe and put forward my opinion that a better plan would help both urban and rural areas.

To commence with the proponents, who are in favour of saving countryside have their own reasons. Many of the people like a peaceful area, apart from the busy and hectic life of city where roads are overcrowded with cars, buses and public transports. Nowadays, some people find it difficult to drive, because of busy roads. Moreover, rural areas are mostly covered by forests and are the homes to many wildlife creatures. Turning those forests down for construction purposes, means disturbing the lives of many wildlife creatures.

On the other hand, more and more people are migrating to the majour cities in order to seek new opportunities for their better future. Because, more and more people are moving in cities, prices for houses and rents are increasing day by day. It is governments responsibilities to provide them adequate space for living. If there is no suitable land in urban area, refusing to develop countryside could worsen the problem. Builders should approach with the idea to make appartments or more vertical building which will use less area but help to accomodate more people.

In conclusion, I would like to restate that a balanced plan and design would help both urban and rural areas to develop and protect outskirts simultaneously.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position and discussing both sides of the argument. The ideas are relevant, such as the environmental impact of development and the necessity of housing due to migration. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion of 'vertical building' is a good point but could have been expanded with more detail on how this specifically mitigates the need for countryside expansion. The conclusion is brief but restates the position effectively. To achieve a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more depth and specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, moving from the proponents of conservation to the necessity of urban development. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the vague use of 'their' in the introduction. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure supports the argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'proponents' and 'mitigate' (implied context), but there are also several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'faisar' (favour), 'majour' (major), and 'appartments' (apartments). These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and ensure that collocations are used correctly to convey a more professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the outskirts', 'the governments responsibilities') and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'Many of the people like a peaceful area' is grammatically acceptable, but 'It is governments responsibilities' should be 'It is the government's responsibility'. The punctuation is generally functional, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences through careful proofreading would significantly improve the score in this criterion.
