Student answer (Band 6.0)

Building a home is a dream, but we need appropriate space and panning. Countryside house development has significantly increased, however some people believe it is harming the rural areas. I firmly believe that with the former view.

In the modern era, constructing a house which features good space is priority. To cite an example, people are building large house and require more square feet area. The modern living has changed and everyone wants to enjoy lavish lifestyle. It has forced people ensure their house have all good amenities. Relaxation is also a key factor why people are choosing countryside for their dream house. City life is stressful living and does not provide time for mental peace. To instance, in rural area people can enjoy freely and spend more time with their family in a quiet place. To add more, with urbanization it is necessary government develops villages. It helps to provide more job and education opporunities for the local residents. Constructing good infrastructure will help boost the economy as well as the people standard of living.

Several people believe, development in village area is harming the environment. The habitat for flora and fauna is impacted and development poses a big threat to their lives. Government should ensure construct approvals must be approved and ensure birds and animal are not affected.

To conclude, development of houses should be prompted, but people must ensure envirnoment is not harmed. I believe government should play a major role in the development of houses and infrastructure.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the tension between housing needs and environmental protection. You clearly state your position in the introduction, although the phrasing 'I firmly believe that with the former view' is slightly awkward. The ideas are relevant, such as the need for space and the economic benefits of rural development, but they are somewhat under-developed. For instance, the argument about 'modern living' and 'lavish lifestyle' is a bit superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the trade-offs involved in building in the countryside versus urban densification.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'To cite an example', 'To add more', and 'To conclude' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the benefits of rural living and the environmental concerns could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be improved by ensuring that each supporting sentence directly builds upon the previous one rather than just listing points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization', 'infrastructure', and 'amenities'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'panning' instead of 'planning', 'people standard of living' instead of 'people's standard of living', and 'construct approvals' instead of 'construction permits'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'everyone wants to enjoy lavish lifestyle' (missing article), 'To instance' (incorrect usage), and 'birds and animal are not affected' (pluralization error). While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain minor errors in subject-verb agreement or article usage. The punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your score.
