Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, villages are converting in city very rapidly. In more areas, new houses are essential, but in countryside places are only available for building. Many people believe that it is more important to protect the rural areas and not build new apartment there. I strongly agree with this statement. This essay will discuss the disadvantages of build new homes at countryside.

To embark, in recent times technology is advancing very rapidly, as a result people are prefer to live in urban areas. As a result, there is a need to develop new buildings, and that is why people cut the tree in rural areas and construct the flats. But it leads many environmental issue. For example, because of deforestation weather becomes more polluted and contains less oxygen. Moreover, people can get respiratory disease and other heath problems.

On the other hand, if people are building new houses at countryside, then many farm can be destroy and it directly affect in farming. For instance, farmers cannot grow vegetables and fruits, so people have to depend on imported items. Prices are also increasing more and more because of less production. Furthermore, many farmers and labours are lose their source of income.

In my opinion, rural areas are very crucial for the environment and for the people, especially for farmers. Thus, people have to try to develop more countryside areas and should not build apartments.

To conclude, people can enjoy living in urban areas and advance technology houses, but countryside areas are very beneficial for weather and for human's lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against building in the countryside. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention environmental issues and the impact on farming, the arguments are presented in a repetitive manner and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'respiratory disease' is mentioned but not fully explained in the context of the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the consequences of urban sprawl beyond general statements. The conclusion is a bit simplistic and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'To embark', 'As a result', and 'On the other hand'. However, some of these transitions are used incorrectly or sound unnatural, such as 'To embark' to start an essay. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences can feel mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'new houses', 'very rapidly', and 'good/bad' concepts. There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'villages are converting in city' (should be 'converting into cities') and 'labours are lose their source' (should be 'laborers lose their source'). To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and environmental sustainability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people are prefer to live' (should be 'people prefer to live'), 'many farm can be destroy' (should be 'many farms can be destroyed'), and 'human's lives' (should be 'human lives'). Subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency are areas that need significant attention. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
