Student answer (Band 6.0)
Population is rising at an immense rate. It is observed that to tackle the issue of housing, builders are shifting to the countryside due to open space. However, some individuals believe that it is crucial to save the rural setting instead of turning it into urban setting. From my perspective, it could be dangerous to move the housing settlement towards the countryside as it may damage the flora and fauna.
Firstly, Housing has been a constant problem for a country. The rising number of population has resulted in building of new houses, thus to fulfill the requirement government has started to occupy free land. For example, it is evident that urbanization has resulted in deforestation which will disturb the environment in coming years with global warming, carbon emissions and many more.
Secondly, when housing settlement increases in the countryside, the fauna residing there starts shifting to other habitat. For example, when species commute from one place to another, the chance of their survival limits. Although, they may endure the weather conditions but due to supply of low food or disturbance in the food chain may endanger their life.
Furthermore, alongside flora and fauna disturbance, it will affect the human life after all the development. For example, there will be financial burden on the higher authorities such as building houses does not solve the issue as they will need to built the roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and all the other necessities to provide livelihood in the countryside. Hence, which requires a lot of finances to support this plan.
On the contrast, although it has a lot of downsides, the only way to make it possible way is to construct the homes without disturbing or damaging the plants and animals of the region. However, financial burden can be reduced by using tax money or tourism.
To conclude, it should be think twice before making the plan of setting new houses in the countryside as it will damage the environment including the flora and fauna. Therefore, proper rules must be set up before making a plan of building the houses in the countryside.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You effectively argue against building in the countryside by highlighting environmental concerns and the financial burden of infrastructure. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported with examples, such as the impact on fauna and the need for public services like schools and hospitals. To reach a higher band, ensure that your counter-argument in the penultimate paragraph is more seamlessly integrated into your overall argument, as it currently feels slightly disconnected from your main stance. Overall, the development is logical and sufficient for the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Furthermore', and 'On the contrast' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions are slightly mechanical or used incorrectly, such as 'On the contrast', which should be 'In contrast' or 'On the other hand'. Additionally, the referencing could be more precise; for example, in the final paragraph, 'it should be think twice' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urbanization', 'deforestation', 'habitat', and 'flora and fauna'. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'building of new houses' instead of 'construction of new housing' and 'higher authorities' which is slightly vague in this context. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, there are occasional errors in collocation and phrasing that slightly limit the precision of your expression. Expanding your range of academic collocations would help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'the rising number of population' should be 'the rising population', and 'they will need to built' should be 'they will need to build'. Additionally, the sentence 'it should be think twice' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs will help improve your accuracy.
