Student answer (Band 6.0)

Housing shortage is one human crisis. Opinions differs as to whether new houses should be constructed in rural areas or they need to be preserved. Although, beauty and environment can be eroded by new construction, personally, I believe that building houses at countryside are more important for development and tackle house shortages.

On the one hand, who believe new houses at village can shrink the agricultural land which lead one of main cause for food shortage. It is fact that world is already struggling with food supply shortage. So, this trend can make it more adverse. Moreover, emerging new concrete buildings can effect the rural environment. For example, constructing new residencies need massive energy, transport and natural resources which can cause pollution in various ways. For example, Transport and chemicals, which might contaminate water and air.

However, despite these disadvantages I side with those who feel it is important to build homes to tackle house shortage. The reason behind this rapidly growing demand of housing. Due facilities and opportunities people are moving to cities and the problem becoming worse. To handle this countryside areas are best option because they have land. Apart from this, this development is necessary for rural development. Constructing new homes not only provide shelter but also encourage local economy.

As a result, villages will develop facilities as cities.

In conclusion, while constructing new human shelters have some negatives, I feel their more positives of constructing new homes in countryside area to mitigate housing crisis and develop village areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position on the issue of building in the countryside. The main ideas—environmental concerns versus the necessity of housing development—are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'local economy' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with specific examples. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is inconsistent, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples to ensure the reader fully understands your reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the one hand,' 'However,' and 'In conclusion,' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'Due facilities and opportunities,' which lacks a preposition. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, and the flow between ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words and ensuring that your referencing is precise will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mitigate,' 'contaminate,' and 'residencies.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'human crisis' instead of 'humanitarian crisis' or 'building houses at countryside' instead of 'in the countryside.' Some phrasing is also repetitive, particularly the use of 'new houses' and 'new homes.' To improve, focus on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) and try to use a wider range of synonyms to avoid repetition and enhance the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'who believe new houses at village can shrink' (missing subject) and 'constructing new residencies need' (subject-verb agreement). There are also frequent errors with articles ('at countryside') and prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound.
