Student answer (Band 4.5)

In today's modern world, there is rapid growth in development of new houses but here we have some problems with a space to built them. In urban areas, we have more empty area to use but few individuals thinks that we should we have to save it for our future resources. I believe that we should have to preserve more land in countryside areas. Three opinions are explained below along with conclusion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 72 words. Consequently, the task is not addressed in sufficient detail. While you state your position clearly, the ideas are not developed or supported with relevant examples or reasoning as required by the prompt. The structure is also incomplete, as you mention 'three opinions' but fail to provide them. To improve, you must expand your arguments, provide specific examples, and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction, the lack of body paragraphs makes it impossible to assess your ability to organize ideas coherently. The use of cohesive devices is minimal, and the transition between the introduction and the promised (but missing) body paragraphs is non-existent. To improve, focus on structuring your essay into clear paragraphs, each with a topic sentence, supporting evidence, and a concluding thought, using linking words to connect your ideas logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'area' and 'new houses'. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'space to built them' (should be 'build') and 'few individuals thinks' (should be 'think'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas or demonstrate a flexible command of the language. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and academic collocations related to urban planning and environmental conservation, and pay closer attention to word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'space to built them' uses the wrong verb form, and 'few individuals thinks' shows a subject-verb agreement error. The sentence structures are simple and lack the variety required for higher bands. There is also an issue with 'we should we have to', which is redundant and grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of modal verbs and infinitives.
