Student answer (Band 6.0)
As the world population is growing, the need of infrasturcture is increasing. While the land for building new homes is available in the countryside, some people believe that we should not sacrifice the countryside to build more houses. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this before explaining why preserving the countryside is essential.
With increasing world population many countries are going through housing crisis. Due to this housing prices have skyrocketed in last few years. This has made buying a house more challenging for people. As a result, many people became homeless because they are not able to afford the rent. To resolve this, many people are suggesting building homes in countryside’s open spaces.
On the contrary, many people are opposing this to protect the open spaces. There are several reasons for this. To begin with, building new houses in the small town spaces means ruining the natural habitat. Most of the open spaces are home to many plants and animal species. Building new houses there will require deforestation of these. As a result, many species of animals and insects will end up loosing their home. Additionally, building new hoses means wiping out fertile land that could have been used in farming. So, it is crucial to protect the countryside.
Although, building more houses in countryside can resolve the housing issue for so many cities, I still believe that preserving the countryside is significantly important as it is home to wildlife and also important for farming.
In conclusion, the increasing demand of houses can be resolved by building more houses in small towns, I still believe it is essential to not disturb the countryside.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the pressure for housing and the importance of protecting the countryside, clearly stating a position. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the third paragraph and the conclusion. For instance, the points regarding environmental impact and loss of fertile land are briefly mentioned without deep extension, and the final conclusion largely reiterates previous thoughts without adding further perspective. This places the response comfortably in Band 6.0, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, featuring a distinct introduction, body paragraphs addressing each side of the argument, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'While', 'With increasing world population', 'On the contrary', and 'To begin with'. However, some referencing and transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly flawed, such as the use of 'Although' at the start of the fourth paragraph followed by 'I still believe', which creates a fragmented sentence structure. Overall organisation is logical and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'skyrocketed', 'natural habitat', and 'deforestation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'infrasturcture', 'countryside’s' (used repeatedly where plural or different phrasing is needed), and 'loosing' instead of 'losing'. Additionally, 'hoses' is used by mistake instead of 'houses'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0 due to recurring inaccuracies in spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'that could have been used in farming'). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the need of infrasturcture', 'housing crisis'), preposition errors ('in countryside's open spaces'), and a comma splice in the second paragraph ('To resolve this, many people are suggesting...'). Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and they rarely impede communication, reflecting the characteristics of Band 6.0.
