Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, due to the overpopulation and house shortages, only village space is left to build houses. It is argued by some that it is significantly essential to conserve the countryside land from being a concrete jungle by constructing new houses in order to protect nature's beauty and agriculture. I strongly favour this view and my viewpoints will be discussed in upcomig paragraphs.

First of all, this world is already on the verge of being a concrete jungle due to the more buildings are constructing on the daily basis. It is totally understandable that there is necessity of more houses as there an unprecedent growth in world population and demand for shelters apeared to be uncontrolable. However, moving towards countryside to combat this issue is not a permanent solution as other factors also needs to be considered alonside such as: requirement of food, clean environment, more trees and less pollution. If the open place in village is used to build more estates, the world will suffer from starvation as no land will be left to cultivate. In India, for example, starvation rate is on number one due to the shortage of land for farming and food is expensive. Hence, it will be hard to survivein such kind of circumstances.

Apart from this, building more infrastructures will also require to clear jungles and cut all trees which are essential for not only giving fresh oxygen, medicinal properties and fresh fruits but also help to sustain ecology by particpating in food chain. In order to preserve nature's abundance, other alternatives should apply. we s

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the dilemma of building new homes in the countryside versus protecting agricultural land and nature. The writer clearly states a strong opinion in favour of protecting the countryside from the beginning. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning the risk of starvation and the importance of jungles for ecology, though the argument is cut short abruptly in the final paragraph. Examples are provided, such as the reference to India regarding food shortages. Overall, the task is addressed adequately and the position remains clear throughout, placing it firmly at a Band 6.5 to 7.0 range. Due to the incomplete ending, it leans slightly toward the lower side of fully developed ideas, making a Band 6.0 appropriate for partially developed support in the concluding section.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear logical links between the introduction and the body paragraphs. Transition markers such as 'First of all' and 'Apart from this' help guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is utilised, although the final paragraph is incomplete and trails off abruptly ('we s'). Referencing and cohesive devices are generally manageable, but occasional mechanical transitions and the abrupt cessation of the text prevent a higher score. Cohesion is functional, allowing the progression of ideas to remain visible despite the abrupt ending, which aligns with the Band 6 descriptor for overall coherent arrangement with some faulty cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'overpopulation', 'concrete jungle', 'unprecedent growth', and 'starvation rate'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'village space' instead of 'rural areas', 'buildings are constructing' instead of 'buildings are being constructed', and 'starvation rate is on number one'. Spelling and word-form errors, like 'upcomig' and 'apeared', occur. Despite these slips, communication is not impeded, placing the lexical performance solidly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If the open place in village is used...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense usage, voice, and prepositions, such as 'more buildings are constructing on the daily basis' and 'survivein'. Punctuation and capitalization are occasionally neglected, and the abrupt end of the text leaves sentence structures incomplete. While simple sentences are generally clear, complex structures frequently contain errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, which corresponds directly to the Band 5.0 descriptors.
