Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that the countryside should be protected from new housing developments due to environmental, agricultural, and lifestyle reasons. The writer covers both the demand for homes and the importance of preserving open spaces, fulfilling the requirements of General Training Task 2. However, the ideas are presented in a somewhat limited and repetitive manner without deep development. For example, points regarding pollution, farming, and mental relaxation are touched upon briefly rather than fully extended with specific real-world examples. Consequently, the task response aligns best with Band 5 descriptors, as the position is clear but the ideas remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay attempts some organisation with basic cohesive markers such as 'firstly', 'Secondly', 'however', and 'In conculation'. However, the overall progression is disrupted by frequent structural and mechanical issues. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs are often run-on or lack appropriate logical linking. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices makes the flow disjointed. There is also a lack of smooth transitions between the discussion of urban overcrowding, countryside lifestyles, and agricultural impacts. These features are characteristic of Band 4 Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The lexical resource is basic and limited, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally strain the reader's understanding. Words are often misspelled or misused, such as 'conjected' instead of 'congested', 'county side' instead of 'countryside', 'peacfull', 'polluation', 'hathy', 'enviromemt', 'conculation', and 'beutifuel'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'hustle - bustel', but inaccuracies in spelling and collocation are prevalent throughout the text. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, placing it firmly at Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak, with a very limited range of structures and frequent, persistent errors. Simple sentences frequently contain structural omissions, such as missing verbs ('The population increasing day by day that the reason...') and missing articles. Attempts at complex sentences are almost always faulty, leading to confusion in meaning (e.g., 'if county side spaces are allowed to build a new house we cannot use the land...'). Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic throughout the text. Because errors are frequent and constantly impede fluency and clarity, the writing reflects the Band 4 descriptors for grammar.
