Student answer (Band 6.0)

Home is a place which provides sense of safety and security to a person and his family. However, in a few locations, new houses are required ,but the land needed for making them is in outskirts of a city. A plethora of multitudes think it is more valuable to save countryside by restricting the construction of residential places there. I partially agree to the given statement as making houses in the countryside has both benefits and drawbacks.

To commence with the advantages of making homes in the outer areas, the first and foremost one is, less stress on cities. To exemplify, Nowadays cities are overcrowded with the migratory population of the villages as people move to urban areas for better job and education opportunities as a result the exploitation of resources occurs in cities.

Secondly, construction of homes in suburbs lead to development of that area and there is better utilization of vacant land for human use which lead results in expansion of cities to the remote areas.

On the contrary, considering its disadvantages, by the construction of homes in outskirts of a city, natural habitat of that place gets destroyed because for building houses, the trees of that area needs to get removed which results in loss of biodiversity and imbalance of ecosystem.

Moreover, quality of air, water and soil gets deteriorated due to the increase in pollution caused by human residence.

In the nutshell, I would like to conculde that no doubt, construction of homes in the countrtside helps in decreasing stress on resources in cities but the negative outcomes of it on nature and environment of suburbs cannot be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the need for homes in the countryside and the importance of protecting the natural environment, establishing a clear partial position in the introduction ("I partially agree to the given statement as making houses in the countryside has both benefits and drawbacks"). Relevant ideas are presented, such as reducing stress on overcrowded cities and the negative impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems. However, some ideas are a bit generalized and could be extended further with more specific examples or deeper explanation. Overall, the task is well addressed, warranting a Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text is generally coherent and follows a logical overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate introduction, advantages, disadvantages, and conclusion. Cohesive devices and signposting phrases such as "To commence with", "Secondly", "On the contrary", and "Moreover" are utilized to structure the response, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or formulaic. Referencing is mostly clear, though expressions like "In the nutshell" contain a minor article error. Progression is evident throughout, placing this response comfortably at a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "A plethora of multitudes", "exploitation of resources", "natural habitat", and "biodiversity". However, there are some awkward collocations and lexical errors, such as "A plethora of multitudes" (which is repetitive and unnatural) and "lead results in". Spelling is generally accurate, but some phrasing lacks natural precision. Communication is never impeded, making this a solid Band 6.0 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. There are examples of complex structures, such as relative clauses ("homes in a few locations, new houses are required ,but the land needed...") and conditional or participial links. However, several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses occur throughout the text, including comma splices, missing articles ("to protect countryside"), and awkward verb agreement ("construction of homes in suburbs lead"). Although these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede overall communication, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
