Student answer (Band 6.5)
Most areas are saturated with buildings in their towns and cities such that the only spaces left are in the outskirts featuring farms and wilderness. Some individuals believe that new houses should be constructed in these forests while others contend that these natural habitats should be protected. I strongly believe that protecting the wild serves more benefits for maintaining the ecosystem, adventures and climate change.
First and foremost, reforesation activities help with climate change. The trees found in the wild absorb a lot of energy from the sun for their own biological processes. If these trees are not there, the effect of the sun would have been strongly felt by causing global warming.
Additionally, the wild creates a means for exploring nature and this can help reduce tension. Many people go on adventures in the wild for fun and relaxation. This can be transformed to a tourist attraction and generate revenue for the community.
So many species of animals are at the verge of extinction. Building houses in the wild can encroach on the balance in the wild and upset the order. The sights of seeing trees while traveling looks appealing but when there are new homes built, it deprives one of such opportunity.
In conclusion, I believe that securing the outskirt in their natural form will assist in protecting communities from pollution and weather change, fostering economic prosperity for the locals. There should be total commitment by all and sundry towards protecting the forests and maintaining the natural order.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt directly by taking a clear position against building homes in the countryside, supporting the protection of natural habitats. The writer puts forward several main ideas to sustain this position, such as climate change mitigation, adventure and tourism, and the preservation of endangered species. However, some of these ideas are relatively brief and could be extended further with more detailed explanations or specific real-world examples. For instance, the point regarding reforestation is introduced well in the second paragraph but is not fully elaborated regarding how it counteracts global warming locally or regionally. Nevertheless, the main parts of the task are covered effectively, and a clear, consistent position is maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a logical overall organisation with a clear introduction, well-defined body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well to guide the reader through the arguments, as seen with transition markers like 'First and foremost', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic ranging from climate to tourism and wildlife preservation. However, referencing is occasionally slightly imprecise, such as the use of 'their' in 'their towns and cities' without a clear antecedent, and some of the transitions feel a bit mechanical. Overall, progression is maintained adequately from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common lexical items such as 'saturated', 'reforesation' (a minor misspelling of reforestation), 'encroach', and 'extinction'. The student shows a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey meaning clearly, although there are some awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'serves more benefits' instead of 'offers more benefits' or 'serves to benefit', and 'transform to' instead of 'transformed into'. Spelling is generally acceptable with minor lapses. Communication is never impeded, but precision and sophistication remain at a moderate level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If these trees are not there, the effect of the sun would have been strongly felt') and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures present, such as 'The sights of seeing trees while traveling looks appealing' (subject-verb agreement error with 'looks' and redundant phrasing) and 'weather change' instead of 'climate change'. Punctuation is generally sound, and while errors do occur, they rarely impede the overall communication of the writer's ideas. The control over grammar is characteristic of a solid intermediate level.
