Student answer (Band 7.0)
Housing is becoming a major issue in some developed nations. Due to the high demand, the only option to build new homes is to construct them in the countryside; nevertheless, a large number of individuals claim that in order to protect the countryside new houses should not be constructed there. I strongly agree with this viewpoint as saving environment is crucially essential.
I feel that the most prominent point is that people are building a lot of new things in the rural areas which are already disturbing the natural cycle by cutting down countless trees as well as forests. To elaborate on it, due to development in technology there is a huge demand for land to build new offices, centres and many more things and urban areas are already utterly busy which is leading people to shift towards rural areas to fulfil their requirements and constructing new buildings by clearing forests. As a result, not only does natural life is getting disturbed in terms of animal habitat but also there will be imbalance in O2 and CO2, levels causing huge problems such as global warming.
Moreover, building new houses can affect the peaceful life of people who are living in villages near countryside. To explain it, a lot of individuals prefer to stay away from the city life in order to live a life filled with peace which could be affected badly if new construction is carried out in those areas. The more buildings will be there the more air as well as noise pollution will increase.
In conclusion, although due to increasing demand for houses it is required to use the countryside land for building new ones, I wholeheartedly hold the view that government should come up with another solutions, for example, building more storey-houses in order to protect the countryside.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating the writer's opinion regarding countryside protection versus building new homes. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The main ideas, such as environmental impact and the preservation of rural peace, are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, fulfilling the requirements for this level. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or lean on repetitive explanations in the body paragraphs, which prevents the ideas from achieving the full depth required for the next band. To push higher, the writer could provide more precise, concrete examples or real-world scenarios rather than relying on generalized statements about nature and pollution.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect ideas, as seen with phrases like 'To elaborate on it,' 'As a result,' and 'Moreover.' However, some of these transitions and referencing mechanisms feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to employ a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that transitions blend more naturally into the fabric of the sentences rather than acting as formulaic paragraph starters.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range of terms to discuss housing and environmental issues, such as 'developed nations,' 'natural cycle,' and 'air as well as noise pollution.' The writer attempts less common vocabulary items like 'crucially essential' and 'wholeheartedly hold the view,' though some word choices and collocations show slight awkwardness. There are also minor lexical lapses, such as 'storeys-houses,' which demonstrate a moderate control of word formation. To improve, the writer should focus on natural phrasing, precision in word choice, and expanding the use of less common lexical items with a stronger awareness of style and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures successfully. There are frequent error-free sentences, alongside a few persistent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, the sentence 'not only does natural life is getting disturbed' contains a tense and auxiliary verb error, and articles are occasionally misused or omitted, as in 'shift towards rural areas' or 'build new ones.' Punctuation and sentence boundaries are generally well-managed. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to eliminate minor structural slips and demonstrate a wider, more ambitious variety of complex sentence patterns executed with greater accuracy.
