Student answer (Band 5.5)
Due to increase in population, new homes are required to build. Some people believes that new houses needs to be build country as no space available in the townside, however, others believe to protect the countryside by not building houses. In my opinion, countryside should be preserved and no houses should build.
To beign with, countryside is the place where the city starts. There is a beautiful natural scenic view, when anyone enters to the city. Countryside is the first place which attracts people to visit city again. Nautal beauty needs to be protected rather than building houses. There will be destruction of trees in order to build houses, which will impact the environment. No place for animal to live, affect global warming, increasing pollution and so on. In evidence to prove, recently there was an Wildfire smoke in Toronto, which affects lots of living beings, suffering from diseases. Avoid building houses in country side. Houses should be build in town side only, though there is a limited space available.
Moreover, if houses are developed in countryside, then there will be limited facilities available, such as school, hospital, job opportunities, supermarket; these facilities are availble only in town side, so people have to travel a lot, which is time consuming. There is a limited job opportunities in the countryside so people have to travel to town side. Government should pass a rule that new homes or redevelop building needs to be build in particluar square feets only, in order to use maximum space available in town side, no one has to move or build houses in the countryside.
In conclusion, in my perspective, houses needs to be build in particular given square feets size by doing this there will be enough spaces to build more houses as well as there will be less environmental destruction by not building houses in the countryside.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, which earns it credit in the upper band. The writer clearly states their opinion that the countryside should be preserved and no new houses should be built there. However, the development of ideas reflects a mixed picture. While some points, such as the environmental impact and the lack of infrastructure in rural areas, are relevant and extended with examples like the wildfire smoke in Toronto, other arguments remain somewhat repetitive or under-developed. To reach the highest bands, the ideas would need to be more fully elaborated and supported with deeper analysis rather than relying on brief assertions and generalized statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance maintained throughout the paragraphs. The response is divided into logical sections, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing environmental and practical concerns, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'To beign with' and 'Moreover' are used, but referencing and logical progression within paragraphs can feel disjointed at times. For example, sentences regarding environmental destruction and animal habitats follow one another without smooth linking devices. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and that information flows seamlessly from one sentence to the next without abrupt transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to discuss environmental and urban planning issues with terms like 'environmental destruction', 'global warming', and 'job opportunities'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include spelling errors such as 'beign', 'Nautal', 'availble', and 'feets', alongside awkward phrasing like 'townside' instead of 'town' or 'urban areas'. These errors reflect a restricted lexical range and occasional lapses that place the response securely at the lower band. To improve, the writer should expand their repertoire of less common vocabulary, check word forms carefully, and pay closer attention to standard spelling conventions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'increase in population' missing an article, 'Some people believes that new houses needs to be build country', and 'there is a limited job opportunities'. Furthermore, passive voice constructions are mishandled ('needs to be build' instead of 'built'). While the meaning can generally be understood despite these issues, the frequency of errors is characteristic of the lower band. To progress, the student must work on mastering verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and the accurate formation of complex sentence structures.
