Student answer (Band 6.0)
As the population is growing, demand for residential buildings is also increasing. Some people argue to build new homes in countryside as more space available there, whereas other believe it is more important to protect the area surrounds the countryside. I support the latter view to protect the rural area and wildlife should be the top priority.
The main reason to protecting the country side area and rural area is the importance of natural environment. In countryside , most of the land is used for agriculture puposes and is habitat for wild animals. It is the home for many animals and by building home, one is snatching their land and destroting their habitat. Also, building more home in countryside results in deforestation, thus, less land will be available for agriculture produce. For example, the developing cities like Toronto, the expansion of these cities put considerable pressure on farmland and natural environment.
As the population is rapidly expanding and they definitely need place to reside. Instead of cutting the forests, government have to look for suitable alternatives such as improving infrastructure. For example, one story or two story buildings can be converted into high-rise buildings, in which more and more people can live comfortably. Apartments are also a great choice in case of saving land.
In conclusion, to build more homes, acquiring countryside land is not a good option as it has many repurcussion on natural environment. To keep the balance, government should have to improve infrastructure of cities and try to convert them in high-rise towers to save space.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you support protecting rural land, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both the need for housing and the case for preservation, giving relevant reasons about wildlife, farmland and urban alternatives. The Toronto example also helps connect the argument to a real situation. However, some points are less fully developed than others: the claim that countryside construction reduces land for agriculture could be explained more precisely, and the high-rise proposal would benefit from discussion of how it could meet housing demand in practice. The response therefore covers the task well overall, but its supporting ideas are not consistently extended and illustrated in enough detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop reasons and alternatives, and a conclusion summarises your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening contrasts people who favour building with those who favour protection, but the second position is phrased unclearly. In the second body paragraph, the shift from population growth to government alternatives could be linked more explicitly to your argument. Referencing such as “these cities” is understandable, though the relationship between the example and the specific claim could be clearer. More varied, natural transitions would strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “habitat,” “deforestation,” “farmland,” “infrastructure,” and “high-rise buildings,” which allows you to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. There is also some attempt at more formal phrasing, such as “considerable pressure.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “puposes,” “destroting,” and “repurcussion” are misspelled, while “protect the area surrounds the countryside” and “agriculture produce” are awkward or inaccurate combinations. Repetition of “build,” “home,” and “countryside” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations and check word forms and spelling; this would make your meaning more consistently clear and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a contrast with “whereas,” a cause-and-effect clause with “thus,” and a relative clause beginning “in which.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “other believe” needs subject–verb agreement, and “as more space available there” is missing a verb. The sentence “As the population is rapidly expanding and they definitely need place to reside” is an incomplete construction, while “government have to” and “government should have to” show problems with agreement and modal structure. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “building home.” Greater control of these patterns, alongside your attempts at complex sentences, would improve accuracy.
